After Aiello and I stood guard, we returned to the room to sleep. And you want to know what happened during that? Nothing happened. Apparently since the almost kiss with Aiello, he became quite awkward and said nothing to me. I wouldn't blame him though. But that moment felt quite strange, in a good way. The sparkle in his eyes had me fallen deep. I wouldn't say I'm not in love with him, I'm just not sure yet. Because every time I tried to kiss someone, something bad happened. And I had zero experience in dating guys so I think I should just stick to our missions.1944/11/14
After a month, we finally got foothold into Germany.
—————Turner's POV——————
Here we were, standing in the tent with Pierson, and there's him— Corporal Davis, who looked pissed, extremely pissed I would say. He wandered around with keys jangling in his back pocket then faced us. "Your orders were to take the hotel, not to evacuate civilians." He folded his arms and scanned over each of us. "Who decided this was a rescue op?" Before I could say anything, Pierson took a step forward. "We thought there was time, sir." Davis cocked his head and frowned. "Last time I checked, Turner was in charge, not you." He turned and glanced at me. "Is he making the calls now?" I thought about it for a few seconds before speaking up. "No sir. It was my call, it's on me." I said firmly. Surprisingly Pierson turned and looked at me. "It's on both of us." "Yeah, well right now the last thing I should be worried about is if two of my best men can follow orders when we're on the verge of the biggest operation of the entire war." Davis said while walking toward the exit of the tent and opened the curtains. "Let me remind you, this is the spearhead of our final drive to the Rhine." We followed Davis as I saw hundreds of our men carrying gears and weapons. Pierson and I, both remained silence since we were in a very tense relationship. I was kinda surprise how Pierson putted the blame on 'us' instead of me. But then I thought of course he would do that for his own good, pretending to be a nice guy to win trust from the commander. What a surprise! "So from this point on, I'll accept nothing less than your best." Davis stopped his pace and putted his hands on his hips. "Now get your insubordinate asses ready to move out." He yelled as I glanced at Pierson, who stared pointedly at me then walked away. I'm on my own now.——————Casey's POV------------
It's been three weeks, we're in the Hurtgen Forest now. Clearing it so the convoy can get to the Rhine. Then came another letter sent by Dad.
Dear Casey,
It's been so long since you left home, I wondered if you were doing okay. Did they treat you well? Sergeant...Pierson? last time you told me he was very strict to you. Is everything okay between you two? I swear to god if he bullied you, I will sue him to death just so you know... Anyways... just come back home soon, your mom and I both miss you.
DadI have to be honest, after all those months in the the military. I don't miss my dad that often. It's a good thing, right? And about Pierson... still a hundred percent asshole. I can't believe I've kissed him. And right now? he treats me like a total stranger, I wasn't surprised tho.
After I put the letter in my bag, Zussman walked over and brought a hot cup of coffee with him. "What's new, Anderson?" He said with curiosity in his eyes. "Just my dad, he said he's been fine and asked me how I was doing." I shrugged. "Nothing new?" He raised his eyebrows. My eyes flickering back and forth then stopped as Pierson looked in my way. "Pierson."
"What?" Zussman's eyes widened. I knew that I had said something very wrong and regretted it immediately. I closed my eyes for a few seconds before looking at others. Zussman, Aiello and Stiles all stared at me as if I were some kind of rare animal. A flush of surprise passed over Aiello's face. "What about Pierson?" I rolled my eyes then looked back at Aiello. "Nothing, I just told my dad that he's annoyed that's all." I knew that my words came out garbled and thick, but I have tried my best to act calm and cool at the same time. "You sure about that? Your eyes look different, Anderson." Zussman said it with a smirk. "Nothing! okay? nothing happened, really." I got to my feet and picked up my backpack.
"You guys should get ready, Turner's waiting for us." I said as I walked out of the tent.
