I can't shake the feeling that I am being followed. But I don't want to run. Running draws attention. And in the inner city, you do not want to draw attention. I take longer strides and adjust my scarf. I can see my apartment building from here. I look around me. There are only a few people around. Nobody likes to be in the inner city after the sun goes down. A train zooms by overhead as I go through the underpass. Suddenly, three people jump out at me. I take off running. I run past my apartment building and past my mom's corner store. I hear them shouting after me. I wonder what they want. I run down another block and into the laundromat. That was the planned spot for me to go if I was in trouble.
