“Elizabeth Anne Griffiths, you have ten minutes before we leave to the airport. I know you don’t want to be late for this moment. You’ve been waiting for this, right?”

I sighed and closed the book I had been reading. I didn’t really want to come. I mean, he never even spoke to me again. Nor tweeted me or skyped me. This really made me feel so betrayed. What happened to him?

Walking towards the closet, I looked out of the window. It was the middle of November, and the snow was already falling heavily from the sky. I sighed again, and took out my winter clothing: a sweater, a long furry coat, and my jeans. Pretty simple, but hey, I don’t want to be like those people who wear over exaggerated clothing to impress people.

After changing my clothes and putting on some thick boots, I headed downstairs to see my mum walking to the door.

“Hurry up, Louis and the boys are probably being mobbed by fans now.” She said, opening the door and unlocking the car. I rolled my eyes and followed mum.

“Well you could’ve just gone by yourself; I could’ve helped Jay prepare dinner.” I murmured. My mum rolled her eyes.

“Well I would’ve done that, it’s just that maybe Louis wants to see you…?” she said in an excited tone. I groaned and buried my face in my palms.

“I told you, he doesn’t. If he would, then he would’ve talked to me. For a year and a half, he never had.” I said, rolling my eyes and looking out of the car window. “This was exactly why I wasn’t really looking forward to this day.”

Mum sighed, and replied. “Just…just act happy, like you’re glad to see him. To make them feel at home and all.” She said, stopping the conversation. I frowned and put on my headphones, drowning my ears in music. I slowly closed my eyes and let my mind to the dreaming.

“Elizabeth, wake up. We’re in the airport already.” My mother shook me, making me wake up. I didn’t like my mother calling me by my full name. I’d prefer being called “Ellie” or “El”, but my mum never listens.

My eyes flutter open, and I see my headphones resting on my neck. Mum probably removed them while trying to wake me up. I yawn, and open the door of the car. I was greeted by the harsh winter wind blowing against my face. I shivered, and follow my mom to the entrance of the airport.

Luckily for us, there weren’t any fans mobbing the five boys. They were happily sitting on the seats talking. I looked at my mom with a ‘go-ahead’ expression. She grinned and shook her head.

“You go and talk to them for a while; I’ll be buying some coffee first.” She said, walking away and leaving me alone. Glaring at her back, I walked over the group of boys who seemed to be laughing at something.

I put a fake smile and looked at the boys, mostly at Louis, hoping he’d recognize me.

But, unfortunately, he didn’t. I ignored it and looked at everyone, who started to notice me.

“Louis! Hey! It’s been a long time.” I say in a fake cheery voice. The four boys looked curiously looked at Louis, and he just gave me a weirded out expression.

“Uhm, sorry, love.” He said, smiling at me. “Have we met before?”

Pain shot across my chest, but I didn’t let it ruin the fake expression on my face.

“It’s me, Ellie Griffiths. Your best friend, remember?” I say, pointing a finger to myself, hoping he’d finally remember me.

Louis only gave me an expression which showed that he was still thinking.

I rolled my eyes. “You know, your neighbor, your friend, the girl who let you go to the X Factor.” I say, about to give up, as I cross my arms, my cheery expression still on my face.

It took him about a minute to recognize me. “Oh, Ellie! It’s been a long time!” He says whilst standing up and hugging me. But something was weird.

He wasn’t hugging me the same he did before. Usually his hugs were bone crushing and tight, but this time, he hugged me like he was grossed out by me. It was a loose and awkward hug.

“How’re you?” I ask, pulling away and looking at his face. Yup, he’s changed. Physically. Taller, more handsome, but his face hasn’t changed. It was the old Lou.

“I’m fine, pretty awesome being the boys.” He replied. “Speaking of the boys…let me introduce them to you.”

“Huh? No need to do that.” I say shyly. “I think I know who they are.”

“Oh really, now?” Louis smirked. “Let me see you try.”

I smiled a bit as the four boys stood up. Pointing at the curly haired lad, I said, “You’re Harry Styles.” He nodded, and gave me a greeting hug.

I pointed my finger to the blonde boy. “Niall Horan,” he nodded and hugged me too. Next were Liam Payne, and Zayn Malik. They both hugged me.

“So, uhm, anyways,” I say, breaking a silence that was starting to become awkward. “My mum’s over there in the coffee shop, so she told me to wait here with you until she arrives.” They all nod, and the boys all engage in a conversation, except Harry, who motioned me to sit beside him. I cautiously obliged, as I was heard that he was a big flirt.

“So,” he begins, making my head turn to face him. “You glad to see Lou again, after a long, long time?”

I smiled (which was, of course, fake) and nodded. “I mean, he’s my best friend and all that. I’ve missed him a lot.” I lied.

He scoffed, and lowered his voice just so I can hear it. “You know, you’re not very good at lying.” He says, and I widen my eyes.

I gave up, and sighed. “Yep. I’m a horrible liar. Lou always tells me that.” I smile and stared at the people who were getting their luggage and checking in for their flight.

“I don’t get you. I thought you’re supposed to be happy to see him again?” he asks, raising his eyebrow.

“Well, I would be very happy and excited to see him,” I said angrily in a low tune just for him to hear. “If he skyped or called me the past year and a half.”

Harry sighed. “You do know we’re busy people, Ellie.” He said, running his fingers through his hair.

“Yes I know that. It’s just that, you have free time. Everyone does. Why didn’t he talk to me then? And besides,” I frown. “He thinks I’m a weirdo, not his best friend.”

“Aww, it’s okay. Maybe he’ll change his ways.”

I roll my eyes and muttered under my breath, “Hopefully.”

Luckily, our conversation ended when mum came to us with a cup of coffee in her hands. We all left the airport, and went back home.

There was an uncomfortable silence during the trip back.
