Chapter Six—Harry’s Suggestion
“Oh no,” I sigh, and quickly grab my phone. “This can’t be happening. This is a complete misunderstanding!”
“No whoopee freaking duh,” Louis mutters and scowls at Harry and I. “So we get a five month long vacation with no media or paparazzi to give us trouble, and you give us this…this news that you’re dating.”
“Lou, you aren’t helping,” Harry breathes deeply and sits down on the couch next to Liam, who, was busy reading the article about me and Harry on his laptop. “We’ve got to do something to prove to the media that Ellie and I are just friends.”
“Well, you can just tell them in your next interview that we aren’t dating—oh shit.” I open my twitter account on my phone and see that my followers had gone up to thousands and my mentions were flooded with 1D fans questioning about me and Harry. “How on earth did they manage to find my twitter account?”
“We’ve got fans who kind of…stalk us a bit too much,” Zayn shrugs and gives me a casual smile.
I nod in understanding and laugh a bit. “That explains why,” I scroll down through my mentions, reading some along the way.
@HK_Directioner: Finally, @Harry_Styles has found a girlfriend. You better take good care of him, @HeyitsEllieeee
@the_t0mlinster: OMFG. Get the eff away from @Harry_Styles, beeyuutch. He deserves sooo much better @HeyitsEllieeee.
@KEEYUUNUUHHHHH: OMG ur so pretty I wish I was like you. @Harry_Styles must feel so lucky @HeyitsEllieeee
@One_Dy3r3t1on: @HeyitsEllieeee just because you’re friends with Louis, you can’t just use him to get Harry. Slut.
There were many more similar tweets that I didn’t bother reading, mostly because they were pretty much useless.
“Ha, and they even found out that me and Louis used to be really close friends before!” I sneer. “You’ve got such dedicated fans!”
“Yeah, and that’s why we love them,” Zayn mimics my tone, causing me to jokingly roll my eyes.
Suddenly, Harry starts smirking and chuckling to himself. I let out a sigh before slowly raising a messy brow at him.
“We won’t be having an interview until the day after Christmas Eve, right?” he says mischievously. “And that’s around two weeks from now, am I correct?”
“Harry,” I whine. “What are you up to now?”
Harry shrugs and grins at me. “Well, since paparazzi and the fans think we’re ‘dating’,” Harry begins with a smirk as he uses his fingers to draw little quotation marks in the air as he did so. “Why don’t we keep it that way, until the day before Christmas Eve, and tell everyone that what we had was just a small fling or something.”
My breath quickly hitched in my throat. What in the word was he thinking?!
“Harry!” Liam and I explain to the younger lad.
“What? Can’t we have a little fun or something?” Harry whines.
“Why in the world would you want to trick your fans or the media that we’re dating?” I say, suddenly standing up and pacing around the room. “Isn’t that a bit…wrong?”
“What’s wrong with that, it’s just a little game.” He replies and rolls his eyes. Liam just stayed quiet, not saying a word a he started to think.
“I don’t want to date you,” I say, frowning.
“Well, you won’t really date me, it’s just pretend.” The lad sighs. “Merlin, have you ever played Charades before?”
“I play Charades all the time, even when I was a kid. But none of the choices involved fake dating Harry Styles!” I argue back as I crossed my arms.
“Well, imagine this as being a choice in playing Charades. Either this, or pretending you’re a lesbian for the whole year.”
“Being a lesbian isn’t one of the choices.” I pout slightly.
“Jesus Christ. Can you get any more difficult?” Harry groans and rolls his eyes again.
“Maybe I can.”
“Oh, really? How so?”
“I won’t fake date you.” I stuck my tongue out. Really, this little argument was pointless.
“Fine then. Be a lesbian for a whole year. Knock yourself out.”
“Who even said I was going to be a lesbian? I’m straight, okay? I like boys.” I grunt and look over at the boys.
Apparently, Zayn’s phone began to ring and so he went outside to answer the phone call. Niall was busy watching us while wolfing down a bag of chips. Liam was still lost in his thoughts, and Louis was just staring at me with a stoic expression. It was always hard to know what Louis was thinking about, so I never know whether he’s mad at me, or at Harry.
“Anyways,” I say. “Why do you want to be my fake boyfriend so badly?” I was asking this out of pure confusion. He was trying so hard to make me give in to become his fake girlfriend, but why? What beauty did he actually see in me? I’m just Ellie Griffiths, that girl who used to be Louis Tomlinson’s best friend. I’m that girl with the unruly long brown hair and blue gray eyes with freckles scattered across my nose and cheeks. I’m not that pretty. I’m a neutral. So why would he want to…?
Harry opened his mouth to say something, but unfortunately, Liam cut us off.
“You guys can give it a go,” he said out of the blue.
“We’ll give what a go?” I say, confused. The question was really random, so I didn’t know what he was talking about.
Liam shakes his head in exasperation and sighs.
“You and Harry’s fake dating. Convince the media.”
I look at Liam as if he had just lost his mind.
“Wait wait wait wait wait.” I say. “Why are you siding up to Harry?”
“I’m not fully agreeing to Harry, it’s just that…” Liam looks nervously at Louis and Harry. “The Larry Stylinson rumors are getting a bit too wild now. We need to make the fans stop thinking about it.”
“Oh, Larry Stylinson.” I say slowly and carefully. “I thought that was a real thing, with you and Louis being some real couple or something. I found that quite cute.”
“Oh, sod off.” Harry slaps my arm lightly and I giggle. “So, are you in or what?”
I shrug. “For the Larry Stylinson rumors. Not you.”
“Whatever, Ellie.
