Feeding time

Kai looked down at the screen on his phone dejectedly. He was a having a great time with Diana but something had to come up.
"Umm...I have to take this..." he looked up at Diana with a hopeful glint in his eye, silently begging for her forgiveness.
"Sure. Do what you need to do." She nodded with a weak smile. She did understand, she's a pack leader for goddess sake! She has duties too. Her mind reeled with possibilities of who exactly is calling her mate.

Jealousy already D?! You've got to be kidding me!

Her wolf had already had a claim on her mate. The jealousy sat in the back of her head, always present and buzzing with energy.

Malakai stood up and walked further into the field, "Hello" he asked to the receiving end of the line. Diana used her heightened sense of hearing to listen carefully to the conversation. Was it a little creepy? Sure. A little intrusive? Yeah maybe, but she didn't care at the moment.

"Malakai Nathaniel Strong! Why the hell is MY store unattended?!" The voice boomed through the phone. Diana almost didn't need her wolfie hearing. Almost.

"Dad I'm sorry but something very important came up-"

"What could possibly be more important than the store! Huh?"

"I...it-it's just really important." Malakai raked a hand through his hair dejectedly.

"You get your ass back here right now or there will be consequences. You understand?"

"Yes sir."

"And if I find out you've been out again running around in those wolf infested forests-"

"I'm not dad. I'll explain when I get home."

The phone line went dead.

Diana's curiosity was peaked and she felt anger slowly rise the surface, like bread rising in an oven.

"I'm leaving..." Diana rose from her position on the forest floor and dusted off her yoga pants.

"Wait! No Diana, don't go!" Malakai quickly reached for Diana's wrist to pull her back to him. He needed her close, to feel the sparks he so desperately craved. The wrath he was going to face from his father when he returned home would be substantial, so he wanted to be close to his mate and savor this moment just a little longer.

"Is there any particular reason I should stay? Or should I just run back into those 'wolf infested forests' your father so affectionately called them." Diana crossed her arms over her chest, putting her walls up physically and emotionally. She knew letting her mate in, getting to know him, and even kissing him was a bad idea. She couldn't help it though, just looking at him now tempted her to kiss him once again. The soft sunset glow made his skin golden and his eyes sparkle.

"Diana, please let me explain. My dad has a dumb hatred towards werewolves. I don't, obviously. I found you to be the most marvelous person I've ever encountered." Malakai hung his head and looked at his feet while running his hands through his hair. A nervous habit Diana easily picked up on.

"Why?" Was Diana's response. Short and clipped, you'd think she was mad but her arms falling to her sides said otherwise.

Malakai knew the answer but he didn't know how to say it. He couldn't just come out with it and say 'I'm a witch and so is my dad and you know that long feud between witches and wolves? Yeah that's why he hates wolves.' "I-I'm not sure...h-he won't say." Kai cringed at how unsure he sounded. He did his best to lie but Diana's silver eyes pierced right through him.

"I know you are hiding something. I can see right through you." Diana relaxed her shoulders and eased her 'resting bîtch face' has her pack members so lovingly call it. "However, I know that sometimes keeping secrets are for the best and we just met today. I don't have the right to know all your secrets...yet."

Malakai let out a long breath of relief. "You are a goddess. I don't deserve you." Kai smiled widely and ran a hand through his hair.

"Oh shut up." It was Diana's turn to smile now. "Listen it's about," Diana checked her watch, "6:00 which is my feeding time and I believe you have somewhere to be." Diana's stomach decides to rumble angrily at her, leaving her slightly embarrassed. Oh well, everyone gets hungry, she thought.

"How about we get some dinner? I mean if you're up for it." Kai blushed a bit, praying to the gods above she would accept his offer.

"What about your dad?" She asked, with a surprising amount of concern for him.

"He can wait a little longer. My mate is hungry and it's her feeding time." He humored. Diana smiled and blushed just a tad (which already was a lot for her).

"Okay." She whispered.
