Chapter 43: Straight On Till Morning

A/N: I just published the completed novella "Brinley", it's a MM romance and is focused on two lil jellyboys falling for each other. It is a mature romance, and all the chapters are currently up. If that sort of thing is your sort of thing, then whilst you are waiting for Sex Camp updates, you should check it out and tell me what you think <3

Clifton had just about got his mind to shut up and started falling asleep when the quiet sound of the door caused him to startle awake. He groaned into his pillow and turned his head to see Alexander shut it behind him.

Clif knew Alex wanted to take Faye out on a special night, he had asked Jonathan and him to cover for him in case their supervisor questioned why a bunch of pillows shaped like a body was on his bunk. Professor Hudson's, whether he figured it out or not stayed quiet either way so they faced no problems.

Alexander looked around the room until he spotted Clifton. Clifton frowned and then sat up, Alex looked happy but there was something on his mind. Something Clifton was scared to ask.

Alex mouthed something to him that Clifton shook his head to, not understanding. He saw him roll his eyes and mouth "outside" before he understood. He pulled the sheets away from him and stepped out of his bed. Jonathan was in the bunk above him and he could hear him snoring, still sound asleep. Their supervisor was across the room from them and sleeping as well. Clifton often wondered what would happen if he approached the topic of his sister with him.

Alex had already slipped out of the door and Clifton quietly opened the door and let himself out too. The night air felt cold and cunning, like there was something in the air that knew of the thoughts that constantly flitted in Clifton's mind.

Alex was sitting on the edge of their front landing. He had his hands in hair, his whole body demeanor screamed that something was wrong.

"Hey dude, it's cold... What's wrong?" Clifton spoke into the passing wind. He rubbed his palms around his arms. He went to sit beside where Alex was and looked at the troubled young man. Alex carried a confident aura with him wherever he went. It only ever faltered when he was around Faye. Yet, more times that not; Alex carried the room wherever he went. He conducted it like it was wired to the cells in his body and everyone seemed to bend to his will.

Except for now. Now it felt like all Alex wanted to do was run.

"Is everything okay?" Clifton pressed.

Alex raised his head and looked at Clifton with a pained expression on his face. "I don't-," he began before groaning out. "I don't know how to tell you this, Clif."

Clifton shifted through his mind and thought out all the worst case scenarios that could have possibly happened. Had he been caught with Faye? Was he in trouble? Did something happen to Faye? A million and one different versions of what could possibly come out of his mouth breached into Clifton's mind. Everything except what did.

"I saw Myra with someone"

The sentence didn't sink in at first. In fact, Clifton was about to ask him once again what happened until he replayed the words in head. Tasting it's bitterness and swallowing it down until it poisoned everything inside. He started shaking his head in disbelief, Alex could have seen anyone. It was dark out and he had been drinking, there could have been an easy misunderstanding.

"No, Clif. You've got to listen to me," Alex began before looking back at the door to their room. His voice was a boneless whisper in the wind and all Clifton wanted to do was scream at it for being so empty.

"You're probably tired, man... Or drunk, it could have just been a trick of light"

Now it was Alex who was shaking his head. He licked his lips and looked at Clifton with an urgency that he had never seen before. "I'm not drunk, I dropped Faye off at their cabin and I saw her, Clif. I saw her with-" Alex breathed out, half frustrated and half in pity.

"You're wrong" Clifton said

Then again, Myra and Clifton hadn't promised anything to each other. But Clifton could tell that she felt something, something for him. It couldn't have been in his head. Her eyes seemed to bright up differently nowadays and she had a different bounce to her step that Clifton was proud to give her.

Then last night, when Clifton went to her to talk. Myra had ended things between them. Clifton just took that with a pinch of salt, she couldn't have meant that literally. She was tired or upset because of something and Clifton would just talk to her in a couple of days and see where they stood. He even forgot about the whole ordeal later that night.

His mind was travelling a different route now, everything revolved around her.

"Clifton..." Alex said pulling him out of his own thoughts. Clifton looked at Alex and saw that he wasn't finished. What more could there be?

"Your sister," he said so softly that Clifton had to lean forward to catch it. "I saw her with your sister, Clif... I'm sorry, man."

The next few minutes went by in complete silence. The world seemed to tilt and Clifton felt everything rise up from his stomach and he wanted to hurl out all its contents. Clifton looked down at a spot on the sand and didn't leave it until he felt Alex shift in his spot. He wanted to be alone, he wanted something to burn. Everything felt fucking numb and he wanted to feel something.

Blaize wants something; we give it to her.

Then it happened, fire rose in his eyes and his world seeped in red when he thought about them together. When he thought about his sister's mouth on hers and Myra's fucking bounce in her step. Clifton couldn't even scream. Nothing came out of his voice, the world continued to be crimson and he realized he was clenching and unclenching his fists.

He was never a violent natured person. In fact, he was closer to a pacifist than anyone in their family. Right now, he wanted to punch something hard enough to make his knuckles bleed the same color that flitted through his eyes.

Alex was saying something, except the sound buzzed in his ears and nothing made sense. Soon, Alex patted his back before standing up and going inside. Clifton stood sitting there for the next half hour still. Against the simmering dark and the night. It felt like forever before he knew what he was doing.

He got up and walked inside. He found his bag near his bed and opened the side pocket to reveal a closed envelope. Inside it were the printed photographs from his camera. Specifically, the ones of Blaize coming out from Professor Hudson's cabin. He took out a pen from the pocket and placed the envelope against the bed before writing something on the front of it.

Putting the envelope in his back pocket, he walked out of the cabin once more and headed towards the internal teachers cabin. Supervisors stayed the nights there. Reaching their front door, he slipped the envelope underneath the door. The red in the world simmered down and he felt his body relax as the words slip through the door. The words in his writing.

Blaize Campbell and Professor Reed Hudson. Not what meets the eye.
