Did I just hear that correctly?

"What?" I asked her.

"I need to talk to Sam," her eyes widened. "I need to apologise."

"Yeah, after what he did today, I don't think- "

"I deserved everything I got today. I need to make him hear me out," she climbed out of bed.

"Where are you going?" I yelled after her. What was she going to do? Chase after him? He was probably long gone.

I followed her into the living room, where she grabbed her phone. Finding someone who's name was 'Cara' from her list of contacts, she clicked call. The phone sent one ring, then went straight to voicemail.

"No way, she blocked me too?" Briar asked out loud, ending the call.

Then she called someone named 'Mike' who had apparently blocked her as well. Just as I was about to ask her who these people were, she called 'Jenna', who picked up.

"Briar? Why are you calling?" A busy sounding voice came through the speaker.

"I was just wondering if you still had Mason's number?" She asked nervously.

Again, who the hell was Mason?

"Mason? As in my ex, Mason?" 'Jenna' asked, confused.

"Yeah..."

"Yes, I do," the girl sighed. She recited a phone number that Briar immediately scribbled down.

"I won't ask any questions," Jenna said, sounding impatient.

"Ok, thank you so much, bye," Briar thanked. Without a word in return, the line went dead.

"Who was that? What are you doing?" I began to ask her some of the questions in my mind.

"She used to date Mason, who is Sam's brother," Briar hastily explained, typing out the number she was given.

"Ok, don't you have Sam's number?" I asked. I don't really know why, I already knew the answer.

"No, he changed his number ages ago," she sighed, pressing pressing the call icon.

After many rings, a man answered the call in a low voice.

"I don't want any insurance claiming," the voice said irritably.

"No, no, it's Briar," she said, worried.

"Briar who? Look kiddo, wrong number," Mason went about cutting the call.

"You're Mason right?" She said quickly.

"Who's asking..." Mason asked.

"I'm Sam's school friend," Briar lied. "I'm also friends with Jenna, who gave me your number... I just need to talk to Sam," Briar pleaded.

"Alright, just this once, I'll hook you up with him. But no contacting this number again, ok? And tell Jenna not to go handing my number out to randoms," Mason groaned, before giving us the desired number and ending the call.

"And you're sure Sam will just talk?" I questioned her logic.

"Why not?" Briar shrugged, typing out the unknown number.

I could think of a million reasons why not, but I decided not to lecture her and let her call the guy.

"Who is this?" A scratchy voice came after many rings.

"Hey, it's Briar," the swooping noice of air came as he probably motioned to end the call. "-don't hang up," Briar added quickly.

There was a pause.
