You were a goner. For sure. These spiders would have you pinned beneath them and their fangs in the crook of neck in seconds. There was no way of escaping this fate, no matter how fast you ran.

"'Go collect some berries,' mother said," you mumbled angrily under your breath as you leaped over fallen trees, the spiders only a few meters behind you. "'It will be fun,' she said. 'You need to get out more, (y/n). Some fresh air will be good for you,' she said."

You growled as the spiders hissed in their horrendous voices . If only you hadn't done what your mother said and went into the woods to collect some berries this morning, none of this would've happened and you wouldn't be dying today. After all, it's a dangerous business, going out your door. Especially when the woods are crawling with elf-eating arachnids.

You tripped and fell flat on your face. The berries in your basket were squished beneath you, leaving red smudges all over your new white dress, though that was the least of your worries. The spider extended its thick, long fangs above you, ready to sink them into your flesh and end your immortal life. Knowing very well this was the end, you could nothing but raise your hands above you in a pathetic attempt to shield yourself and squeeze your eyes shut, awaiting the poison that would soon flow through your veins and kill you.

But it did not come. What did was the piercing shriek of the spider hovering above you. You opened your eyes hesitantly to see an arrow protruding from its chest, gone straight through its vile heart. It twitched a little before leaning lifelessly forward. Your eyes widened and you scurried to the side before the monstrous thing fell right were you had been.

This sent the other spiders into complete chaos. They climbed all over the trees, screaming curses as they searched for what killed their companion. Suddenly, a dozen elves clad in armor worn by none other than the royal guard emerged from the brush, shooting and stabbing the spiders with unbelievable speed and agility. You watched them finish their job with wonder and awe in your eyes. This would make for a great story to write when you got home

One particular ellon caught your eye. Not only was he stunningly handsome and fair, his armor was slightly different than the others. More detailed and bold. He must be of high rank or the leader of the patrol. Wait, he was the prince! You had not seen him before, but your sister had, and she had sketches of him all over her walls. She fantasized him like you fantasized books.

In less than a minute, all the spiders were dead. Prince Legolas sheathed his knives on his back and approached you. His face softened at the sight of you, a beautiful elleth about his age shaking with fear on the dirty ground of his father's forest. His eyes were a piercing electric blue, and you felt like he was seeing into your very soul as he drew closer.

Legolas wondered who you were. He had never seen you before, but Mirkwood was big kingdom. Still, he was baffled that such a beautiful elleth had been living under his nose without him knowing. It was simply preposterous to him. Even though your dress was torn and covered with smashed berries while your face was cloaked with dirt, you were the fairest elleth he had ever laid eyes on.

"Are you hurt, my lady?" he asked. This caused the guards to be perplexed. Their prince usually always interrogated them and made himself look like a threat. Now he was talking to this victimized young elleth like she was a princess and neared her like she was glass that would shatter if he got too close.

"A few bruises," you said, rubbing a red bulge on your shoulder, "but I'll live. All thanks to you, hîr nín. I am forever in your debt." You, too, were stunned by the prince's appearance and manners. And the fact that he had just saved your life was simply a bonus to your newfound admiration.
