Your heart sunk. It felt like a colossal figure appeared and sat on it. You didn't even know why it bothered you, but, at this moment, you didn't care. How could you have been so stupid? Marlene liked Sirius and he liked her back; it was so obvious. Every time you thought that he was looking at you, you were sat next to her. All the pieces fit into place. How she'd refer to him by his  surname, how she sat up slightly whenever he came anywhere in eye sight, or even how her eyes lit up whenever he laughed in the common room; it all made sense now. You sat there staring at Marlene with an expression close to disapproval, identical to Lily's. Alice on the other hand just looked confused.

"Like... Thee Sirius Black?" You asked covering up your sadness.

"As in the guy in our year group?" Alice questioned.

"As in Potter's best friend?" Lily asked dumbfounded. This was the first time in a while you'd actually seen that expression on her. In the right moment you'd've taunted her on it.

"Yes. That Sirius Black. See, I didn't tell you guys earlier cause I knew you'd react judgmentally."

"No no no. We're okay. It's that we're just... surprised. That's all." Alice reassured her.

"What do you mean you didn't tell us earlier?" Lily whispered looking horrified. After that you guys continued the game. Later on you all went to sleep.

The rest of the month went swimmingly. You attended all you classes and did most of your homework on time. You had time for friends and even started conversing with a couple people from other houses; especially Slytherin seeing as you had most of your classes with them. The only problem were your tutoring session with Sirius Black and that after your new found knowledge, Marlene told you that she felt a little jealous because of them. For her sake you'd make the sessions shorter without talking about random topics like you usually do, say something good about Marlene (her idea not yours) each lesson and avoid any type of physical contact. Even though sometimes during the lessons you'd think of how much a great guy he was you had to push away any sort of emotion, for Marlene's sake.

Before you knew it, October was ending. That day it was Friday 31st October 1975; the Halloween feast. After all the fifth years finished their lessons, they went to the common room to change into anything comfortable and then paraded towards the Great Hall.

"I heard that Dumbledore had an announcement to tell us." Your friend Lucy Hendrix from Slytherin told you. Lucy transferred from Ilvermorny in America to Hogwarts when she was in 3rd year but you only became friends with her last month. She had black hair and glasses. Her tan skin was slightly freckled and she was pretty slim from being the Slytherin seeker.

"Really, wonder what that's about?" You said.

"Maybe he decided to cancel the O.W.Ls ."

"Don't sound so hopeful. I doubt he will." You answered laughing at her sudden burst.

"Well I definitely hope so. If I have to look at one more text book I swear..." A voice called out from behind you. You turned to see an overenthusiastic James Potter. Next to him were the usual; Remus Lupin, Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew. You also noticed that your so-called-cousin was blushing immensely in the Slytherin's direction.

"Don't get our hopes up like that Hendrix." Sirius chuckled as they overtook the pair on the hallway. Lucy looked dumbfounded in their direction. You were confused why until you realized this was the first time  they talked to her without bullying her. You and Lucy arrived at the doors of the great hall along with a bunch of tardy fifth years, and separated to your house tables.

You saw that today your group of friends were sitting with a familiar face, who had his arm slung over Alice's shoulder.

"Hey Frank. What made you sit with us today?" You inquired sitting down.

"What? I can't decide to sit with my girlfriend and her friends no matter how annoying they are." Frank jokingly replied.

"Ouch, we're not that annoying right?" Lily asked but to her dismay the reply didn't come from  Frank.

"You can be a pain at times but I'll always love you my Lilyflower." James shouted not far from where you were sitting. Lily glared at him with a slight blush on her cheek while the rest of you laughed.

"Settle down children." Dumbledore said causing all sound in the Great Hall to stop. It amazed you that he could do that. "This announcement is mainly directed towards the fifth, sixth and seventh years but it seems like something you'd all want to know about.

"We all know that our fifth years will be doing their O.W.L examinations when we open in January and our seventh years will be doing their N.E.W.T exams.

"We also know that most if not all of these students will need to stay in the school during the Winter Break for mandatory studying and revision. Us as teachers have decided to treat these hardworking candidates with a dance that will be held this December." This announcement was met with a great amount of cheers. You, yourself, were grinning ear to ear at your friends.

"Sixth years are highly recommended to attend even if they will not be doing any examination." Dumbledore begun as the cheering dulled down. "For the first, second, third, and forth years you will not be allowed into this dance so I doubt you should bother you parents and guardians on staying for the winter." He said.

Once he signified that he was done talking food appeared in front of you and discussion broke loose.

"Who do you think's gonna ask you guys?" Marlene asked.

"Frank and I are definitely going together. Right Franky?" Alice said turning her face to look up at her boyfriend.

"Wouldn't wanna go with anyone else in a thousand years." Frank said pecking Alice's lips.

"Seriously? There children around and we're eating." You admonished.

"Well i'm not expecting anyone to ask me anyway, either than Potter that is, so i'll just stay in and study. Or i'll go with (Y/N), no ones gonna ask her." Lily said.

"Hey. It may be true but that doesn't mean it won't hurt." You complained.

"I hope *cough* asks me to go." Marlene stated.

"Who, Siri-" Marlene kicked Lily from under the table. You laughed trying not to show your disappointment. Obviously he wasn't gonna ask you. Urgent to change the subject, Alice asked,

"What are you guys gonna wear?" Frank rolled his eyes but listened as you four discussed what you were gonna buy from Hogsmead for the dance. The sinking feeling in your tummy dulled down eventually but never really disappeared.
