Ocean Life

Dear Diary,

Still don't have anything to call you yet, but I'm working on it!

Anyway, today I went to the aquarium with Dad and Pa. We stayed by the turtles for awhile. But I was really happy when we got to see the dolphins. I love dolphins!

It got me thinking about how dolphins and other ocean animals live together under the water. It's dangerous for some animals, but it's even more dangerous for the young ones. But the predators have babies, too, so it's kind of the circle of life, I guess. It's really kind of sad how the ocean can be so cruel. Then again, the land can be, too.

Pulsing, swimming through the seas,
Gliding through the water with ease,
Slipping in and out of the waves,
Every leap seeming a close save,

'Cause down below the predators lurk,
Deep down in the water's murk,
But rise up to feed on the prey
To keep their babies' hunger at bay.

Some babies struggle to survive,
And worse yet predators thrive
By feeding on the young of the others'
To get through their own endeavors.

When a predator can go on no longer,
Its remains make the plants grow stronger.
The plants feed the fish who need it,
But danger only avoids those who heed it.

Back to swimming through the sea:
Beautiful creatures swimming free,
Catching fish to make their dinner
And prove that to nature, no one's truly a winner.

Fin-cerely,
Pippa Ham
