Elian grew up mostly with her father, not knowing that much about her mother as she died when she was born so she was never brought up into the conversations and she was okay with it because it was better off to not have her mother with her. While growing up, her father disappeared every once in awhile and she really didn't pay that much attention to it because she was solely focused on school and not on her father and his whereabouts.
She rarely spent time with her aunt, Nasira because they didn't really have a good communication to start with so it was strained from the beginning and Elina didn't even try to get a good bond with her aunt
