I must have been crying for hours, when my door opened. I didn't look up from my pillow. It could be someone dangerous, and I couldn't really give a damn.
The door closed softly with a click, and I tried to reign in my tears. It didn't work.
I felt a dip on the right side of the bed. "Kid?" It was Tony, and I just buried my face farther into my pillow.
"Kyra please look at me."
I snapped. I pushed my face up from my pillow. "That's not my name," I growled.
I sat up all the way in my bed with my back against the headboard. I refused to look at Tony, and I kept my long hair in front of my face. I'm sure I was red and splotchy.
"Kid..." He began hesitantly. "I know that you and Pietro were a little close..."
I looked up and my hair showed my face. "Tony, it's not Pietro. I know who I am. I know what they did.." my voice broke off.
He just pulled me into him and held me while I sobbed on his shirt for a few minutes.
"I lived in Scotland," I started.
"Kid, you don't need to tell me right now-" I pushed away from him and shook my head.
"I need to tell someone . Now."
He just nodded. He had a small cut on his face, but he seemed to have remained unscathed during the fight.
"I lived in Scotland. My mom and dad, they did something top-secret. My name was Alice. Alice Stone. Kyra was my mother."
I swallowed as I thought through the fresh, but old memories.
"She had a thing for Alice in Wonderland. We lived on a farm near a forest, and we would always play in the forest." I looked at my wall, and a dark look passed over my face.
"We were walking on an abandoned train track when they...they shot my father. My mother went down seconds after. I was so confused...and there was so much blood."
I looked down at my shaking hands. "HYDRA took me from my parents bodies and to HYDRA where they injected me with a serum, and it gave me these powers...and the other side of me."
I looked at Tony, and he was looking down guiltily. "I remember Africa. I get why you didn't tell me."
He looked up again, and he looked like he was about to talk, but I kept going. "They trained me while I was in my other state of mind. Turned me into an assassin. When I was a child, I was sent to the red room for five years.
And then I was sent into the field...Every time I blacked out, it was because I was getting ready to kill somebody. And I can remember every single one of them. 23 people. Twenty-three lives I've taken, and I'm only fifteen."
Tony put his hand on my shoulder. "Kid. Look at me. Alice look at me." I flinched. "It was only you in the flesh, but not in the mind. It was HYDRA working through your mind. You're just a kid. It wasn't you.
Now, whether you're Kyra, or Alice. That's up to you. You have control over where your life goes now. And I know that I'm not your father, I could never replace him, but you can stay here. And I will pay for your schooling, and clothing, food. You have a home here kid."
I wiped the tears from my eyes and laughed. "Kyra." I want to go by Kyra." Alice was just a red haired girl from Scotland. My past. I no longer had ties to her.
"Well then." Tony got up. "Get ready for bed, and please try to sleep. We've got a busy day tomorrow."
"Busy," I asked.
