Cherry Tree

The flowers were falling from the tree
You, gathering them in the pocket of my jacket
Their light pink contrasting with the black of the fabric
And your glimmering eyes eclipsing the spring sun

You smiled as I picked a flower from the tree
Conscientiously, to choose the prettiest one
One that could try to equal your sensational beauty
One with delicate and dragée pink petals

I took a strand of your shimmering brown hair
To take it back behind your elegant ear
And I placed the flower, a pale floating boat
On the impetuous and boisterous chestnut ocean

I stared at you, a splendid flower under tiny ones
Like the mother of all those pinky stains on that tree
I stroked your peachy pink and soft cheeks
And we both smiled seeing our little monster throwing petals
