When the clock ticked 7:00Pm, I headed towards the elevator. There were not so many people in the elevator since majority of the people had already left the building. Everyone was for an early leave, even Dean had left a little bit earlier.
He had said he had a meeting to attend to but I didn't believe it. No one had called to book an appointment with him today nor did he have a meeting, particularly on that hour.
Maybe he was going to meet with his secret girlfriend whom no one knew about.
"Are you here yet?" I texted, once we reached the twentieth floor.
"Almost. And I'm driving." The text came immediately, as if Avril had been waiting for me to text her.
Wasn't she driving?
It has been a very long time since I had my last girl's night out with Avril, my best friend. When she asked if I was free this Friday, I told her yes. I missed her so much and a night out would be the perfect way to catch up with everything that had been going in our lives.
Since we were teenagers we have been having our night outs which usually comprised of popcorn and watching crime/mystery movies but this time round, she said that she wanted to take me out for a treat and I really could not wait.
I looked at my outfit; a simple plain pink shirt, white sneakers and black high waist jeans. This would do for wherever she was taking me.
At times like this, I was happy that the enterprise allowed it's workers to wear casual clothes during Fridays and not the normal suits and formal clothes that we usually wore on other weekdays.
It did not take long for the sleek black Audi to appear and I headed towards the passenger's seat. Once I got in, I was attacked with sloppy kisses on my cheeks and a tight hug. "I missed you so much Steph."
"And I missed you Avril." I laughed, hugging her back.
Avril and I had met in highschool and we had hit off instantly as freshmen. After highschool, she had went to Britain to study for a degree in business management and after graduating with her bachelor's, she was now studying for a masters.
At first, when her father told her that she was going to join one of the best universities in Britain to study business management, she was angry at him. In fact, she never ate anything in three straight days. I don't know how she pulled it off, when I could not even go to sleep without taking my supper.
After the admission, she had then fallen in love with the Britons and her course and that's why her old man was happy beyond degree when she announced that she wanted to continue with her studies.
After all excitement, she started the ignition and then looked at me. "What were you doing here?"
I turned to look at her. She wore her black hair down, wearing a black hoodie and jeans. Her face looked like it always did, no make up. Just her usual normal arched eyebrows, a small nose, small lips and a pair of black eyes.
I smiled at her. She hated it when I kept secrets from her. "It's a surprise."
She wrinkled her nose, like she always did every time she was curious. "Tell me."
"It's a surprise Avril." I said, laying back on the soft car seat, and I waited.
Six.
Five.
Four.
"Please, please tell me." She whined and I stifled a laugh.
Acting nonchalant, I picked a fashion and makeup magazine laying on the dashboard and started flipping through it's pages.
