"Did you call Sir Roman Garcia?"
"Yes sir."
"Have you updated the company's contacts?"
"Yes sir."
"Did you receive the names of the new interns?"
"Yes sir."
He raised a brow,"What have you not done?"
"Nothing sir." I bit my lip, trying my best to hide away the smile that was tugging at my lips.
He signed the last paper on his desk and placed it inside a brown folder. "You can go home if you are done working."
"No sir. I'm good and I can wait to leave at five." I was in no mood to go back home at this time of the day, it was only 2:00 O'Clock and Vera would still be at school at this hour.
He stared at me. His right brow rising up high and an emotion I could not point out sparkling in his eyes. "You don't want to go home?"
I cleared my throat. Suddenly feeling conscious of him." Yes sir. Someone could call and request to speak with you."
He continued to stare at me and after what felt like three hours but was only three seconds, he nodded. "Okay. But because you have insisted you have to accompany me somewhere."
Accompany him? Where to?"Where sir?"
"A party with my fellow businessmen."
I wanted to say no. My body screamed to say no, but no words left my mouth. I was the one who had insisted that I wanted to work and now I had to bear going to a party where everybody wore black or dark grey suits.
Besides, I had always wondered what those parties were like, except what we only saw in the movies about people plotting to kill each other during such events by slipping poison in someone's drink. I really hoped nothing of such sort would happen.
"I'll go."

By the time I reached home, Vera was sprawled on the chair with her phone in her hands, rapidly typing something."Hey, you are early today."
"It's because I have to accompany Dean somewhere."
It was 4:40Pm and I had left the office early because of Dean's insistence.
"Dean?"
"Yeah." I stepped out of my shoes and I felt myself relax as soon as my tired feet made contact with the cold floor.
"Dean?"
"Yeah." My eyebrows knit together. Why was she asking the same question?
"Since when are you on first name basis?"
I rolled my eyes and walked to the kitchen to grab a glass of water. So that was the reason she had repeated his name twice.
"Since never." I replied once I got back to the living room. "I only call him that on my mind, the other times I address him as Sir,Boss or CEO."
She gave me a look that said she did not believe me but she let it go."And where are you going to accompany him?"
I took my final gulp of water and placed the glass on the table. "A business party?"
At the mention of a party she stood up immediately and dragged me to my room."Vera, calm down."
"Calm down?" She exclaimed as she opened my bedroom door and headed to my closet. "How can I come down when my sister is going on a business party?"
I sat on bed and watched as she picked and looked at my clothes, one by one, searching for the perfect one. She was so motherly and bossy at the same time.
"Will this do?" I heard her mutter under her breath and then she shook her head and threw it down on the floor.
"Vera, that is my dress." I complained and went to pick it. She did not even glance at me as I stood beside her but continued to cause a rampage in my closet.
"I'm going for a business party Vera, not a party party."
She glanced at me, her eyes going down and up my body and I saw her nod. "That's even better, cause you need to look beautiful."
I rolled my eyes for what felt like the umpteenth time today and went to lay down on my coach. There was no trying with Vera if she had her mind set on something, there was no changing it.
"It's not like I'm trying to impress someone."
"What about Dean?" I reached for a piece of paper and threw it at her but it landed on my lap.
"He is my boss, Vee, my boss. "
"What about that time you were drooling over him?" Did she have to bring that now? It happened months ago when I did not know him.
"That was months ago."
"If you say so." She replied in a sing song voice as if she knew something I didn't and it annoyed me.
After all the effort Vera had gone through, I could now say I was ready to go out and stand in front of those businessmen.
I was wearing a royal blue dress that reached just below my knees, a black leather jacket and black heels. My curly hair had been straighted and it loosely fell of my shoulders, my face had a thin layer of makeup which only consisted of foundation and concealer. My hazel eyes were under a coated layer of mascara and my lips had been painted a dark colour of red.
"It's still early."
"But he should be here by now." Vera complained. The expression on her face made me smile.
"He is supposed to be arriving in the next twenty minutes Vera, be patient."
"You know, you could go and meet someone else."
I went to squeeze my eyes shut but stopped myself when I remembered I had mascara. "Not now Vera, not now."
Why did she have to bring it now? I understand that she cared about me, but couldn't she just drop it. She knew I hated it each time we talked about such types of relationships.
I was always reminded of Alex.
"I hear a car honking let me go check." She disappeared and appeared a minute later with a smile on her face. What took her so long? "He is here."
After saying my goodbye to her, I met Dean leaning on his black sports car. He was dressed as usual,in a black tight suit, white T-shirt,a black tie and his black hair laid back.
He was all about black.
"Hi." He greeted once I reached him and I replied.
I followed him to his car and took a seat at the passenger's seat like he commanded. The rest of the ride was spent in a comfortable silence and it didn't take us long to reach to our destination where other expensive cars were parked.
The hall, where the party was going to take place was full of men dressed in business suits and women in beautiful gowns. I suddenly felt underdressed as I looked at their expensive clothing, the way their hair had been done and their make-up. They all look absolutely beautiful.
Some people greeted Dean as we passed them and from their conservation and they way he acted towards them, I could tell that he was not really close to them.
"Don't feel out of place, you are not the only PA here." He said. He must have seen how uncomfortable I looked as I assessed everyone in the room.
I was just about to tell him that I was okay when a voice called out, "Dean" and I felt him grow rigid beside me.
