I can't believe I'm doing this.

With a final breath, I stepped inside the building. Unlike all the other times when I would meet a group of people moving hurriedly carrying files at this time of the morning, today there were not so many people.

I had come earlier by fifteen minutes and I think that's why there were not so many people.

As I crossed the reception are, heading towards the elevators, I saw a group of employees, elegantly dressed, both male and female look at me and then start talking among themselves. It didn't need a genius to know what they were talking about. They were gossiping me.

I don't why they would do something like that. More so in the open where I could see and maybe hear them.

I had not really made friends here, except for Lucy, Marco and the red head whose name was Paula. And I didn't have their numbers so I didn't know what was going on in the company. But as I saw the group look at me again and laugh, I knew they must have heard about what happened that day in the CEO's office. Maybe the whole company knew about it? I shuddered at the thought. I prayed no one knew and the group was maybe talking about something else but not that.

I first headed to the fiftieth floor and after placing my bag at my post, I headed to get Dean's coffee. I made it just as he loved it and prayed that today there wouldn't be any problems between us.

When I was still in the kitchen I saw Lucy and said hi. "Morning."

She looked stunned to see me. Her eyes darted around the kitchen as if looking for something or rather someone and then she said a simple hello and walked out. Maybe she is just busy,or maybe she forgot what she came to get in the kitchen and decided to go back I told myself.

Lucy was not much of a talker and being an intern who loved business, she was always on her feet.

When leaving the kitchen, I spotted Marco and decided to run walk towards him. "Hello there Mr Marco."

He turned around fast."Hey.How are you Steph?"

"I'm doing good." I answered and pushed away the thoughts of why he would be asking that at the back of my mind. Could he had also heard the rumours, if there were any at all?

He nodded. "That's good. Where did you run off to? I haven't see you for one week."

So, he hadn't heard the news yet." I just had some issues to settle."

He looked at me as if assessing me. "Hope you settled them?"

"Yep." I answered and changed the subject."How have you been doing?"

"Ah, you know me. Just acting cute and polite to everyone." He puffed his chest out and I laughed.

"That's so cute." I played along.

"That's Marco for you. Being cu-" He was cut off when we heard the sound of heels clicking on the tiled floor and seconds later appeared a lady I had never seen who threw us a dirty look.

"Bye." Marco rushed past me and I was left rooted on the ground.

What was wrong with everyone? Why were my friends acting like this?

He arrived at work at 11:00Pm, hours later and the coffee that had been lying on his office desk probably cold.

I tensed the moment I saw him from my peripherals. He was walking towards his office, his face down turned as he fiddled with a button on his shirt.

My heartbeat increased but I couldn't stop myself from looking at him. He had not yet seen or felt my presence.

He was not wearing his usual flat ironed black suit, instead he was wearing a crumpled white shirt. His hair that was usually styled backwards looked unruly. As he walked,he almost lost his footing, maybe because his mind was not where it was supposed to be and I released a sigh of relief when I saw him inches away from his door.

But suddenly, he turned around. His black eyes widened and his face contorted with anger and hatred.

"You!" He bellowed and lunged towards me.

It happened so fast. I had no time to stand up to run to safety before he grabbed my arm and hauled me out of my chair to his office. The door was closed with a loud bang behind us and I was sure it could be heard in the whole building.

"You!" He released me, his index finger  on my face."It's all your fault!"

What now? I wanted to cry but the clenching and unclenching of my stomach stopped me.

"It's all because of you and I'll make sure you pay!" He shouted at me, veins popping out in his neck.

What was he always talking about?

"You thought you could run away from me, didn't you?" His mouth turned into an ugly smile, the anger and hatred that had been glinting in his eyes vanished, replaced with another emotion.

I shook my head, afraid of him and what he was going to do.

"Now that I have you here I'll make you pay." A yelp escaped my throat when he roughly grabbed me by my arm and pulled me to face him.

Wasn't this payment enough? I inwardly shouted at him. Working for him was problematic enough and now I had his father threatening to send me to prison if I left this office.

Why was a coward? Why was I afraid? Why could I gather up the courage to slap him or push his hands away from me?

"You did this to him! It's all your fault!" He pushed me away with so much force I staggered backwards, and luckily landed on the wall.

"You trapped my father by asking him to add that clause to the contract."

Was this guy crazy? Why was he talking like this? Wasn't he the CEO of this enterprise? He was the one who added the clause. It was him, it had to be him!

"But things are working on my favour, cause now that I have you here, I promise that I'll make your life a living hell." He seethed and evilly smiled at me."Mark my words, you can never run away from me, I'll go to the ends of the world looking for you. You have caused me so much pain and because of that, you'll never know peace."
