Chapter five
Too unfit to say I love you.

Two days had passed and everything was different,
Billy was back to semi avoiding Dakota;
Not because he didn't like her or wanted to be away from her but because he was confused.
He had walked home with Josie while she hung off of his arm and while she dribbled on about some boring event at her house he thought.
Every thought was about Dakota;
How beautiful her hair is
How beautiful her eyes are
How absolutely gorgeous she looked no matter what she was doing or what she was wearing, pants or dresses.
How much he liked her name or how he enjoyed their kiss and the way her lips had tasted..

She was all he could think about,
But all good things must end. The blank state on his face and lack of responses to what Josie had been saying had made her very mad,
"Billy are you even listening to me?!"
He wasn't listening.
He hated to admit it but he was indeed infatuated with Dakota Jones..

"Josie I have to go!"

And so he shook his arm out of her tight grip and ran the rest of the way home,
He had to apologise for avoiding her, AGAIN.
He ran so fast it was almost inhumane,
His heart raced and he was losing breath but the smile was indeed glued to his face.
It was love,
Young teenage love.

Billy burst out of the woods, he could see the little French girl almost home,

"DAKOTTAAA"

He shouted so loud that Dakota wouldn't have been surprised if the neighbours over three miles away had heard him,

He ran all the way to her and for a solid moment she had half the nerve to move out of the way for she feared he may not have stopped in time.

Stopping in front of her he took in a few deep breaths,

"I"
Breath
"Need to"
Breath
"Tell you"
Breath

"Jesus running here was a bad idea"

He bent over touching his knees trying to swallow the air he so desperately needed so he could tell her his extraordinary feelings.

"Is that all you needed to tell me Billy because I have a lot of things to do and prepare for tonight"

Suddenly all the oxygen he needed hit him and he was able to speak
He had to get the words out.

"NO! No.. no.
That's not what I needed to tell you..
I have to tell you..
Agh.. crap.. I don't know how to tell you.."

She sighed as he jumbled up his words, she didn't have time for this.

"Billy.. since the thing..
you've been avoiding me.
I really have things to do today before the sun sets. I really have to go"

And his chance was gone just like that.
She shut the door quickly behind her and without another word.

Billy wasn't sure what he felt.. disappointed, embarrassed or mad.

He had run all the way from school to home in an attempt to tell her how he felt and he had completely fucked up his chance.

So, he put on a calm brave face and went to his own house. He was going to practice how to tell her.. how to say the words, three little words.
