"Come on, Y/N, don't be a chicken!" Your friends yelled over to you.

You had all planned a day out to the beach, which had sounded fun enough until they suggested going playing by the rocks. There were big rocks sticking out of the water, heading pretty far in - your friends were currently jumping one from one, playing tag.

It looked fun and you wanted to join them but there was one key problem: you couldn't swim. Moreover, water was probably the most terrifying thing in the world to you and you didn't want to be that close to it.

So here you sat, on the beach watching your friends all have fun from afar, wishing that you could join them. They laughed and cheered so loudly, making you so jealous. Why do I have to be such a chicken?

You were happy to see one of your friends come running over to you, "Y/N!"

"Hello, sunshine!" You said, hoping that by calling her by her nickname that you could make her soft enough that she would sit with you. You even pulled her into a hug. "Come to sit with me?"

"I came to ask you to come play with us-"

"I'm scared of water!"

She scoffed. "You aren't going in the water."

"What if I fall?"

"I'll jump in after you and save you!" She said in a jokey voice, nudging you. "Are you really going to just sit here all by your lonesome?"

Of course you didn't want to sit by yourself but you also didn't want to go near the water. You thought about it carefully for a moment. If I'm careful, I don't have anything to worry about.

You sighed and thought of just going home but as you looked to your friends, jumping and leaping from rock to rock, giggling and having so much fun, you decided to just join them.

"Fine."

"Wait, really?!" She exclaimed, screaming and hugging you tightly. She called over to the others, "Hey, guys, Y/N is joining us!"

You heard them cheer and shout you over. You both headed off to the rocks, you being as careful as you could to not to slip as you jumped to the first rock. You instantly almost fell, finding the rocks pretty slippy.

"Hold my hand," She said to you, noticing you slipping.

You were happy to and, slowly but surely, she led you to the rest of your friends who were quick to hug you.

"Sunny, I can't believe you convinced her to come out here!"

"She's usually so stubborn-"

"Hey!" You snapped, "I am not."

"Are so," Sunshine joked playfully.

You both laughed a little. Truth be told, you were incredibly stubborn and even you knew it - you just had too much pride to admit it out loud.

"Coconut crack," said one of your friends and you all put in your hands. She went quick through it and, of course since you had the best luck, you lost and thus would have to be the the chaser. "Y/N's it!"

They all sprinted off, jumping off from rock to rock fast as lightning. The idea of catching any of them seemed pretty impossible but you'd try anyway.

You made your way from rock to rock, moving pretty slowly and never getting anywhere near them. You could see Sunshine off six rocks ahead and you smiled. Idiot!

The path she had picked was one way, so if you chased her you would catch her eventually. You slowly moved after her, making it free rocks before everything went wrong.

Your heart felt like it sprang all the way up your chest into your throat, getting stuck, as you realised what was happening...you had slipped.

You fell hard against the rock, your ankle feeling like it twisted all the way around and a scream of pain leaving your mouth. You tried desperately to grab for something to stop you from falling but you had no such luck.

You plummeted into the freezing cold water. Your whole body went into panic mode and you couldn't think straight. I'm going to die! I'm going to die!

You thrashed your limbs out helplessly. You couldn't swim but even if you could, your ankle was twisted up pretty bad so there was nothing you could do.

Somebody notice I've fallen please! Your friends may not even have seen you fall. Sure, you had screamed but the sound of the waves were loud enough that it was muffled. I don't want to die!

You kept trying to get to the top but it wasn't working, these waves were strong as hell and just kept pulling you further and further down. Your limbs began to become sore and tender, then numb and hard to move.

Eventually, they seemed to just stop responding to what you were telling them to do and you knew that there was nothing else you could do. I can't believe it...I'm going to die.

Then, suddenly, something touched your skin causing you to jolt slightly from it. Whatever it was, it wrapped all the way around your torso and heaved you up and out of the freezing cold water.

The first breath of air was painful as hell, causing your chest to feel as if it had been filled with flames and it didn't ease up even as you sucked in more air.

The sun was brighter than you remembered, blinding your eyes so you couldn't see. You just held on tight to whoever was saving you. Before long, you were on the beach and completely out of the water.

Once you could see, you set your eyes on the figure. It was a boy, about the same age as you. He had dark black hair that was soaked with water just as yours was, sticking to his forehead. He's actually...super cute...Y/N not the time!

“Are you okay?” He asked you, gently brushing some of the hair out of your face.

You heaved for air still, struggling to think of anything to say. You wanted to be smooth. You had almost died but that didn't change the fact that this boy was dangerously adorable.

“You saved my life...that was cool of you.” That...was...cool of you? Y/N WHY?!
You squeezed your eyes closed and said allowed, “I'm an idiot.”

He let out a soft laugh, at which you opened your eyes again. His face just lit up when he laughed, making him look even cuter.

“You did just almost drown...I'll give you a break.”

You laughed now. “Oh, don't. I'm as stupid as this all the time. Almost having died or not.”

“Are you always this cute?”

You stopped laughing now. “Boy, I look like a drowned rat.”

“You look...really pretty,” He said, then seemed to turn shy. “I'm sorry I shouldn't be flirting after what you've just been through-”

“No, it's the silver lining. Almost died but got rescued by a cute boy.”

I'm never usually this confident, you thought, I should almost drown more often.

He laughed a little, brushing the hair out of his face. It made him look cuter. “You think I'm cute?”

“Don't act coy, you know you're cute!”

“I think I deserve a reward for saving you.”

“Like what?”

“How about a date?” He asked, smiling widely at you.

What is this a disney movie!

You smiled back at him. “It's the least I can do.”
