Hello, this post is more serious than the others so if you are triggered by extreme poverty and starvation and other depressing things this post is not for you, but I feel the need to express my freedom of speech which a lot of people don't have right now.
I am not Venezuelan but I am still extremely pissed at what's going on in Venezuela right now and I feel I should inform people about their situation. The media doesn't show this side of Venezuela and mostly just ignores it. Why? Because a lot of the media is controlled by the government.
It first started with the person they elected president, Hugo Chávez. When he ran, he promised to do all sorts of good things for Venezuela, he ran anti-poverty and anti-corruption platforms. But in reality, he INCREASED these things and the president now isn't any better.
Once a rich and economically stable country, is now in chaos. Venezuelans have to have ID cards to tell them what day of the week they can go to the store. People stand in lines for hours, not to see that new movie you wanted to, not because they were going to see their favorite celebrity, but to go the the grocery store.
Oh and should I mention that one you actually get inside the store you don't know if they'll be anything in there. At all. In fact, there is almost no food or basic, everyday things in general. If you're a woman, you can't get that many tampons or pads, if there are any. Diseases are sweeping through the country and killing. So why don't people just buy medicine? Because there is none. To sum it up people, children, are dying because of starvation and disease and the government isn't helping anyone.
Protests are going on all over the country because there is no other way to express their emotions about the government and if you go, the law enforcement will arrest you. Actually, if you express your opinions that go against the government at all, you will be arrested.
If you are like me you probably thought, holy fuck I didn't know it was that bad. Well, it is. I haven't covered everything, but I will keep updating this page if I learn anything new. If you cared enough to read to here, thank you for taking interest.
One of the best things anyone outside of Venezuela can do to help is to spread awareness of this crisis. If you want to learn more about this and spread the word, I have links to some websites and videos that explain it better than I do.
