After the Summer Holidays
Arcadia Oaks High, Earth

Krel's POV

"The area of a circle is ..." Ms. Janeth addresses the room of gloomy humans with gaiety over her usually stern expression. "Anyone?" Her bright eyes scan each of the faces. Some appear to be disoriented, some are doing what humans call "doodaling" on their desks, and some aren't even awake at all.

It is now the first day of a second year in school (or "Prison Education," as I like to call it. And the first day back is so far klebtastic! Please note my "sarcaism"), and no one seems to be back in high spirits (who can blame them? I don't call the place Prison Education for nothing).

With the Mothership sustaining even more severe damage then before, the possibility of wasting the rest of my delsons on the Mudball has now increased from 78% to 150%. Seklos and Gaylen, how am I going to survive three more keltons on this Dump Heap of a planet if I can't fix the ship?! Maybe this is the end. Maybe Aja and I are stuck here forever and we never get home and we never save mama and papa and—

"Little Brother," Aja says from the side of her mouth as she elbows me forcefully in my stomach.

"Oww! Why in great Gaylen did you—" I stop in mid sentence when I find the entire class staring at me, even Ms. Janeth, as if they're waiting for an answer from me.

"Well?" Ms. Janeth asks.

"Umm ..." I stammer. "Could you repeat that question again?"

She rolls her eyes haughtily, "Perhaps you would like to show the class the answer to Question 5B instead of yammering away to your imaginary friends."

The entire class cracks up. Except for one.

"Go," Aja mouths.

I cover my face with my shoulder-length brown hair to hide the red marks spreading across my cheeks and push away any thoughts of the collywobbles as I march up to the board, trying to look more confident then I felt. Kleb! Why do some of the mistakes in humanity have to be so embarrassing?!

I take the black marker from Ms. Janeth and approach the empty whiteboard. "To find the area of a circle, you have to find the diameter of the shape using the radius," I draw a perfect circle on the whiteboard along with a simple dot in the dead centre of the shape as I speak. "Then you have to—"

I'm interrupted by loud coughing. I turn around in annoyance to see a human girl no older than me sitting in the middle row next to my desk. Her emerald-green hair falls in thick locks around her honey-brown face, which has a bored expression written on it.

"I don't mean to burst your bubble, Blush Boy, but you're forgetting to add something," she snarks.

I scowl. Who in the seven galaxies is she?! I've never seen her in class before, or in the last year of Prison Education. And who is she calling Blush Boy?! I am the future King of Akiridion-5!

I ignore her and continue working out the problem on the whiteboard. "And so the answer to Question 5B is—"

"3.14," she interrupts again through a cough. "Yeah, we know." She sniffs in her regular voice as she stands from her desk and strides towards me. "I mean, don't get me wrong I'm pretty sure you could handle the equation yourself, but I just had to let you know that you're forgetting to show your working, so half the class doesn't even know what you're saying anymore." She leans against the whiteboard and pats my shoulder in sympathetic amusement.

It's a pity I don't have my serrator with me or I would've done serious damage to her! That would've been fun to do. If only I weren't stranded on this Dump Heap in the first place!
