Alei

"So you have everything?"

"Mhmm." I nodded.

Packing our things into the back of my car, I've been quite for most of the day. School was finally closed for the vacation and today Mirah and I were heading to Atlanta in a couple hours and my mother was coming out during the course of the next week.

"You ok love?" She held my face looking at me.

"I'm just tired, that's all." I gave a weak smile.

I honestly was though. The week leading up to when school closed was crazy. This was going to be my first trip out of Trinidad in three years and I was more than ready for it.

"Sure it has nothing to do with Druex?"

Sighing, I ignored her question. Druex and I haven't spoken since we fell out last weekend and when he did call, it was to speak to Amirah and that was it.

"Alei, don't let him upset your mood babe. You and Mirah go and have fun ok."

"Yes mommy." I smiled. "Amirah come on!" I called.

Shortly after, she came running out the house. Telling my mother goodbye, they exchanged hugs and kisses and she climbed into her car seat.

"Sit still, let me strap you in." I fussed with her.

"I want to do it mommy." She whined.

"Amirah!"

Shouting a bit, she stopped as we stared at each other. Finishing strap her in, I closed her door and approached my mother.

"Don't take your frustrations out on that child." She pointed in my face.

"I'm sorry."

"Good."

Hugging me, we said our goodbyes and I left. As I got into the car, she stood by and watched as we left.

"You excited to fly babe?" I looked back at her.

Not even looking at me, she didn't answer.

"Amirah, I'm speaking to you."

Finally giving me her attention, she had tear filled eyes.

"Mirah, mommy's sorry she yelled at you ok."

"Ok." She wiped her face with her forearm.

"Mommy is just really tired and wants to get over this flight. You hungry?"

"Uh Huh." She nodded.

"Words ladybug."

"Yes mommy."

"Ok soon as we get settled at the airport we'll get something to eat."

"Mommy."

"Yea?"

"Call daddy please."

Looking at her in the rear view mirror, I just nodded. Pulling up to a red light, I texted him to let him know my reason. Pulling off from the light, my phone rang.

"Hold on." I answered before passing it to Mirah.

"Hi daddy." I heard the excitement in her voice.

----

"Uh huh. We going to the airplane now."

"Airport Mirah."

"Sorry, mommy say airport."

Smiling, I continued driving. by the time we got to the airport, she handed me my phone.
