Kennedy
Half an hour later found us laughing over coffee at the 'outdoor' bistro on campus. It was basically just a little store that had tables and chairs out on the patio; nothing too fancy.
"Does she really sleep with the lights on?" I ask again, giggling at her misfortune.
"Yes! It's the worst because I'd be so tired after practice and want nothing but a cold, dark room; then she walks in."
We were discussing her roommate that always kept on the lights in their room because she was scared of the dark; although she would never admit that, so I was told.
We talk for another hour or so about her family and her life; her little brother Chase sounded so adorable. It must be real nice to have siblings, I thought.I told her about my life, how it was at home; I told her how much I wanted a brother or sister and how uncooperative my parents have been this whole time.
"Trust me, it's not that amazing," she chuckles.
There's a comfortable silence that stretches between us as we watch the sun set below the horizon line. As cold as this day was, I didn't want it to end; to my surprise, Kayla was a down to earth person.
Nothing was better than someone who spoke the truth, even if it hurts. Her watch starts to beep as she mutters, realizing the time.
"I've got to go, my class starts in ten," she says, taking her paper cup with her. "See ya around."
And with that, she walks away, adding to the distance between us.
I hate to admit it, but my heart drops a little. I was foolish to think she'd actually want to start a friendship with me, nevertheless, I still hoped. As I gather my own Michael Kors purse, my phone rings and my heart unexpectedly warms; I accept the call.
"Hey," I smile.
"You're not in your room," Ben greets, his deep voice amplified through the communication device.
"Did I say I was going to be there?" Ben hated sarcasm, but that never held me back from using it on him.
He sighs, used to my witty remarks. "If you're hungry, I was thinking we could go-"
"Kennedy, wait up!"
I turn to see Kayla strutting over to me, curiously slow even though she had a class soon. She hands me a folded sticky note, a half smile forming on her lips.
"You're alright Banks." And with that, she was gone; for good this time.
Ben and I were going to a nearby Chic-fil-a for dinner, since I didn't want anything from the cafeteria. Don't get me wrong, the food is AMAZING; I just wanted something different for a change.
Dark ripped jeans was the perfect contrast to the white Versace long-sleeved hoodie I threw on. My three day twist-out was still holding up so I did nothing to my hair besides lay my edges.Everly day lazily on our couch with her legs dangling off the end; she was busy texting on her phone.
"Alright Everly, I'll see you later," I call out while tugging on my black calf length boots. "Sure you don't want to join us? Ben's paying."
She pauses her texting, looking at me with the faintest blush staining her cheeks. Immediately sitting up, she starts fumbling over her words, tucking strands of her hair that didn't need to be fixed.
"N-no! I'm fine here."
When I give her a squinted eye look, she continues. "Besides, I'm going to meet a friend soon anyway."I tried not to let the surprise show on my face, although it fought me pretty hard. I had no idea that Everly had other friends besides me and for some weird reason, a minuscule part of me was jealous.
