you stood in the elevator.

ting..ting..ting

the sound of the floors passing filled your ears.

you stand there, already feeling dead.

the 5oth floor was where you were going. the roof, to be exact.

you've been feeling down for as long as you remember. part of you always felt like no one loved you, or would even care if you were to die in front of them.

so here you were. on your way to kill yourself.

a tear falls down your face but you quickly wipe it away when you feel the elevator stop.

ding!

the monitor above told you it was floor 27.

the doors open to reveal a teenager in school clothes.
you make a face when you see him, confused to why he's wearing his school uniform on a saturday night.

he walks in and you ignore the urge to turn to him. this is because if you did, it would lead to conversation and you didn't want that. not right now.

4 floors pass

from your peripheral, you can see that he's staring at you. it was so strong that it was almost like it was burning the side of your face.

you give up and turn.

"do you mind?" you croak out. your voice, soft and weak.

he clears his throat and turns back to look at the elevator doors
"just observing" he states.

you nod and sniffle, turning your head also.

"are you.. ok" he asks, surprised at your lack of speech.

you look at him and he's staring straight into your eyes, you look down at your shoes to avoid this.

you ignore his questions

36..37..38..

you tapped your foot impatiently

"hello? i asked you a question" he says, sarcasm evident in his tone.

"yes, i heard it. but i don't wanna answer ok?" you say quietly, turning more so that he can't see your teary eyes.

he lets out a breath
"well i guess that's a no"

ding!

your attention snaps to the doors.

it opens, but no ones there.

you look at the boy and he mumbles, "not me".

you sigh and press the 'close' button. in the process your sleeve rolls down, revealing your scars.

you quickly tug on your sleeve, embarrassed.

you slowly look up at the strange kid, praying he didn't see.

your eyes meet his and he looks at you with sympathy. you turn away once again.

you hear him sigh.

"you're not heading to the 50th floor," he pauses and walks in front of you "-are you?"

your eyes are stuck on your shoes as you nod your head.

he lets out a loud sigh.

"goddammit." he mumbles and you look up.
