Divergent: Uriah and Marlene

Chapter 4 (Marlene)

What just happened? I can't think straight. My mind is spinning faster and faster by the second. I snap back into reality when I hear someone call my name.

"Marlene." It's Shauna. "Marlene."

"Huh?!" I jump.

I hear some quiet laughs from people and then I remember. Candor or Dauntless. Uriah kissed me. I suddenly feel extremely embarrassed and I know for a fact that my cheeks are bright red. Zeke begins to speak. His words are a bit of a slur because he's halfway drunk.

"Alright," he says. "That's it. Thanks for coming everyone."

We all leave and I try to walk down the hall as fast as possible. I feel like all eyes are on me but they're probably all on Uriah. I don't know. All I care about is getting back to that dorm to get some sleep because I have to pick a dauntless job tomorrow.

I get back to the dorm and before I know it, I fall asleep on one of the beds.

A light tap on my arm wakes me up. I gasp, not knowing who or what it could be. Then I see his face. His sparkling brown eyes are looking straight at me.

"Hey," he whispers.

I look around and see that everyone else is asleep. The room is still fairly dark and I'm wondering what the heck Uriah's doing up.

"What time is it?" I ask.

He shrugs. "Around 3, I think."

"What are you doing waking me up at three o'clock in the morning Uriah?!"

He smiles and I can tell that he's trying his best not to laugh. "I wanted to tell you something."

I feel really angry at him and I don't know why. Maybe it's because he brought another girl, Caroline, with him to the party and he decides to kiss me. Now he's waking me up really early just to ask me a question. What is wrong with him?!

"No," I say. "Go away."

"But Mar- listen."

I interrupt him. "You're not just gonna come up and pretend to like me to make that Caroline girl mad okay?!"

"I wasn't-"

"Shut up." I snap back at him. "I said go away. I don't want to hear any of your silly excuses."

He looks down at me and sighs. And then, he walks away.
