BTS' Chaelin surprised her (Japanese) fans on Monday night by tweeting about a special single
she would release this Friday - In Japanese! She announced it with the words: "Everyone, this Friday I will release a song very dear to my heart. I hope you love it as much as I do."After BigHit Entertainment release further information about the single, they also confirmed, that this would not be an official debut in Japan. As of now, there are no news of a music video either. The single is titled "決別" which translates to "parting". Why Chaelin chose to release a song in Japanese is yet unclear. However, fans are very excited for the upcoming song.

Once the song was released, critics praised Chaelin for her exceptional use of the Japanese language and various articles and videos were made about the song, which scored number one Japan's Oricon chart. It also shot onto the Billboard 100, charting at number 22 and number one on the Billboard World Chart. "Parting" sold around 3 Million copies in 2 months in Japan and became one of the best selling singles ever in Japan. It was a mega hit, despite being sung by a non-Japanese and despite receiving zero-promotion. The song was an emotional ballad, that was though to translate. But once translated, fans had a hard time figuring out who the song was about.

"I know you were what I treasured
I waved farewell without a promise, believing we'd meet again
The train window is a frame for the flowing scenery
that softly, softly begins to reflect a new beginning
We assured our reason for living together with piercing eyes
The pain I feel is not my memory but more, it's my vow itself

The promise you gave me I still believe in
I keep it in my box, knowing we'll never meet again
We loved the same song with separated feelings
it's melody reaches beyond the passing of time

I found that the same colours shone in different scenery's
I can feel the warmth behind us
"You cannot go forward without losing something"
Such feelings wait to be revealed like a magic trick

Following the railway, the frame shows a new town
If I can put our 'farewell' into a song
I'm sure we can meet again no matter what
I found that the same colours shone in different scenery's
I can feel the warmth behind us"

(this is the original song)

Chaelin never really talked about the song in-depth and only answered "I was in Japan when I wrote the song, that's why it's in Japanese" when being asked, why the song wasn't in Korean. A popular theory was, that the song was about Jonghyun, which Chaelin denied. Another theory was, that Chaelin wrote the song about a friend, whom she had during her pre-idol years. Others muse it's about Namjoon, however, since the song is about two people going separate ways and coming to terms with that, ARMY quickly threw that theory out the window. It would probably never be revealed whom the song was about, but nonetheless, the song would always be special to Chaelin and ARMY's alike.
