Having somewhere to go is home
Having someone to love is family
Having both is a blessing-Unknown
(WARNING: SHORT CHAPTER THAT I OVER DETAILED TO MAKE IT SEEM LONGER)
After being told by Parker that he wanted to be left alone for a minute, I collected my bearings and ran out of the Big House. The camp was empty with the exception of a few people, none of which the person I needed to talk to.
Asking the people around me was almost pointless due with the rush of everyone leaving; no one knew where anyone was unless they were in front of one other. Some told me that Annabeth had already left, others thought she was still in the meeting. I knew both of those options were incorrect, but giving up on finding her was the last thing on my mind.
I had spent the entire time I knew Parker wondering why he hadn't been claimed. Every possible reason why couldn't have ever prepared me for the truth. He was never a demigod to begin with, but godly blood moved through his veins. The perfect combination of wisdom and sea. Grandchild of Athena and Poseidon.
...if you haven't figured it out by now, you might actually need therapy. Picture: me and Annabeth. Parents: Poseidon is my dad and Athena is Annabeth's mom. Parker isn't a demigod, he's a legacy. More specifically, mine and Annabeth's legacy... You still haven't gotten it yet? Let me spell it out for you:
Parker is mine and Annabeth's kid...and I had no idea. My world was crashing down, thoughts running wild. Guilt filled my chest for something I had no intention of doing: abandonment. Sure, I meant to abandon those who I felt had betrayed me, but the abandonment of my own kid? Hades put me in the Fields of Punishment if I did it intentionally.
Apples again? C'mon at least give me 'ome sugar cubes, I heard they used to serve donuts back in the day! Sugarcubes ain't as good as donuts, but they're better than apples! I heard an irritated voice say as I passed by the stable. Turning back towards the entrance, I made my way over. In the corner of the stable stood Annabeth, preparing and grabbing a saddle.
"You could've told him." I said harshly. She didn't react, just carried on with her business as if there wasn't a cloaked person watching her.
"I did. You were there." Annabeth replied tightening one of the straps before checking the security of the saddle. She looked at me and raised an eyebrow as a way of saying "Remember?"
I rolled my eyes. With the amount of times I've done that here, I'm truly shocked they're not stuck.
"That's not what I meant."
She groaned in frustration. "You're insufferable."
(A/N: hehe)
"Look," she spoke as if she were talking to a toddler, "I never told Parker who his parents were-"
"Don't beat around the bush, I know who you are to him." I cut her off, just as annoyed.
"Great!" Annabeth said with fake enthusiasm. "Then you know the exact reason I had to hid it from him and everyone else."
Confusion and blank looks made appearance.
When I didn't respond, she explained herself. "Typically, if the mortal parent of a demigod knows who their child is, they won't tell them. Why? Because while knowledge is needed and essential, it can also be dangerous to the holder of it. Monsters are more likely to attack if you know they're out there since they lost the element of surprise. Legacies are either the opposite or worst. Lacy Grace, Jason and Piper's daughter? Aphrodite isn't as major as the gods and goddesses, Jupiter never technically made an oath, and she has trained everyday since birth. Lacy is protected. Parker... he's a different story. He's good in combat, yes, but he missed years of it."
"And he would've gotten it too if you hadn't given him up." I interjected.
Annabeth sent a swift, hard punch to my gut that I could not deflect in time, and held a finger at me.
"I was in no condition to take care of him, but I made sure he was protected. An ex-Amazon warrior was an employee at the orphanage, and Artemis had her Hunters keep an eye on him. Don't you dare accuse me of giving him up. I was eighteen and I didn't anyone. Will only knows because he recognized the symptoms."
A part of me was sympathetic because it was my fault she was put in that situation. Another wanted to put all the blame on her for the betrayal I felt years ago.
"Anyways, before I was rudely interrupted." She took a breath. "Parker lost years of potential training. I've been pushing him and having him spar with Lacy, he's won a few times, but Lacy is nothing compared to what he's going to have to face. That's why I never told him. I was apart of a major prophecy and two wars. Percy was part of two prophecies and two wars. Gods out to get us. Athena is one of the most respected goddesses and Poseidon is part of the Big Three. Just imagine if that information got out. Lines of monsters that we've defeated would be waiting to get their revenge. Grover, a satyr, and Lord of the Wild, nearly passed out when he first met Parker because of his smell. I didn't tell Parker who I was to him incase he slipped up in front of the wrong person. The results would be devastating."
For a moment, neither one of us said anything. I thought I saw a tear forming, but Annabeth turned back to the horse before I got a word out.
"I have get to Camp Jupiter to help-"
A roar from some kind of monster followed by a nymph's scream cut Annabeth off. We looked at each other, and without saying a word we knew what we had to do.
We left the stables and ran towards danger.
It almost felt as if I had never left this life behind.
