Chapter 11: Driving, driving, and more driving

We started packing up our bags and getting ready, Aiden decided to come with us and Lucy invited her friends and Munro invited some too, but Lucy, Aiden, and Munro, were all I had. I threw some shirts into my Invader Zim messenger bag and sat outside with it over my shoulder lighting up a cigarette gripping my lighter tight between my hands. A car pulled up and a bunch of people piled out of it heading up the stairs past me. This guy with red and black hair stopped in front of me. "Hey hot stuff can I get one off of ya?" He winked at me laughing slightly. "Yeah?" I held out a pack of Newports offering him one and he slid one out smiling. "Thanks." He smiled lighting it and holding out his hand. "I'm Zeik." He laughed sitting next to me messing with his hair. "Germ problem? It's whatever. Who are you anyway?" He looked at me as another guy walked up smirking at me. "Chris leave her alone she's shy." Zeik smiled at him passing him the lit Newport nearly burning Chris's hand. "Careful dumbass!" He laughed dodging the burn. "Don't take that off him Zeik." Another one of the people from the car was walking up she had wild hair and extreme makeup on. Zeik stood up hugging her. "Hey Jamie!" He smiled hugging her again looking back at me. "Jamie this is quiet girl, she's yet to give us her name and back story." He smarted laying his hands on his hips. "Maybe it's none of our business?" Just as she said that Lucy came busting out of the front door nearly knocking me over. "GUYS!!!" She screaming running into Chris jumping on him laughing and clinging to him like a spider monkey. I stood up grabbing my bag tighter walking back inside. Just as I did Munro was coming out with a bag on his shoulder. "Trying to hide?" He smirked at me throwing me over his shoulder. I just crossed my arms getting irritated, I wasn't good around new people and this was to much for me. My anxiety was getting awful and I felt like I was losing it. Chris walked up to Munro from behind poking my cheeks. "Hey beautiful, you look a little lost." He smiled really sweet at me making me look up at him. Lucy was talking to Jamie and Zeik. "Where is Delilah?" Zeik was really annoying with the questions but I wasn't focused on him. "More people?" Jamie laughed looking at Lucy. "She's bringing you know who with her and she said she'll meet us there so I guess now we just load up." Munro passed me to Chris and I kept a grip on my bag as he slapped my butt. "PUT ME DOWN!" I freaked out and started kicking till he put me down. "Geez crazy much?" He looked at me irritated. "I'm sorry okay?" I ran inside locking myself in the bathroom. "Smooth Chris." Lucy brushed past him giving him a dirty look following me inside. "Melody please come out." Lucy knocked on the bathroom door just as I had downed my medication. "I'm fine Lucy I'll be out in a minute." I struggled to keep my calm and opened the door with shaking hands. "Come on Melody, just focus on the concert." I took a deep breathe opening the door clutching my bag and walking outside looking around. "I'm Melody. Sorry about the minor freak out." I apologized to everyone looking at them all. Zeik introduced himself again and Jamie walked up to me smiling. "Jamie. Badass and yeah more badass." She held out her hand shaking mine kinda hard. "Chris, screamer.....screamo singer!" He corrected himself feeling ridiculous. Zeik laughed holding his knees. "In bed?" He laughed and Chris punched his arm. "Shut-up." Chris got embarrassed looking away from me. "You in a band?" I questioned him trying to break the tension. "Yeah, I'm playing at warped actually...ever heard of Graveyard Hideout?" He looked at me smiling slightly knowing I was interested. "Yeah I have, why do you know em?"  I looked more interested since I was quite fond of the band. "Sure we'll go with that." He smirked and grabbed his bag. "Come on lets go!" He yelled and Munro was locking up the house. "I'm coming chill the hell out." Munro grabbed his keys out of his pocket. "Who's riding with who?" He questioned as Chris opened the back of the other car. "Well since this is my car I'll be driving mine." He smirked at me leaning against the hood of his car. I knew the exact car too, it was a favorite of mine. and one I wanted to own someday. He was propped up on a 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396. "I'm riding with you!" I pointed at him looking the car over in amazement. "Little lost?" He laughed as I looked up at him. "It's a Super Sport. True American muscle" I smiled and he was in shock that I knew the car by its classic name. I ran my fingers over the sleek black glossed paint. "Pop the hood?" I questioned wanting a closer look at the cars heart. "Sure but don't take to long we gotta get going." Lucy had opened the back of Munro's Nissan and put her bags in and Munro was tossing his in too. "Who else is riding with me and Lucy?" Munro yelled as Chris popped the hood unveiling a big block ugh this car was a beauty. I smiled looking it over with satisfaction. "Keep it in shape?" I questioned closing the hood. "Yeah when I need to. Costs a pretty penny though." He smiled holding out his hand. "Here go ahead and hop in I'll put your bag in the back." I gripped my bag opening it. "Lemme get my ipod out at least." I grabbed my ipod and my hoodie just in case I needed it and handed him the bag. I guess Zeik and Aiden were gonna ride with Munro and Lucy and Jamie were gonna ride with Chris and me. "Awesome.." I sighed climbing in the car realizing I knew neither of them like I did Munro or Lucy but I guess this trip would be good for me. Munro was putting the last of their bags in the trunk and slammed the hood, what was his problem? I questioned the situation and shook my head to get rid of the thought and Chris climbing in the drivers seat cranking up the stereo. "103.1" Jamie smirked at him and he turned it to the station and what was playing? Paralyzer by Finger Eleven. Loved the song and they both knew it cause I was tapping my fingers to the song. Munro had pulled out and we pulled out behind them and the trip was on. We had a lot of road to cover before the big concert, it was going to be at least 8 hours driving but I stared out the window while Chris and Jamie talked and enjoyed the music but I couldn't help but stay out of my dark thoughts. Before I knew it, about 2 hours had passed and we needed to stop for gas. We pulled up to some gas station was Jamie jumped outta the car. "I'll go pay for the gas you fill her up." He smiled at him as he handed her twenty dollars and she held out her hand for me. "Come on lets go get some soda. Gonna be a while before we stop again." I grabbed her hand and she yanked me out of the car as we walked inside. "Melody you know Chris has a thing for you right? That's why he was flirting with you. Major turn on of his is when girls know his car like he does." I looked over at her and opened the door for her and followed her inside. "He does not." I walked back to the sodas and was figuring out what to get. "I'm gonna get one for Chris too. Since he's driving and all." I grabbed two Dr peppers and held the door open for her to grab one too. The cool air gave me chills like the night it rained. It creeped me out and rushed my thoughts to Dustin but I snapped out of it when I felt someone hug me from behind. I jumped scared slightly and whipped around to see Chris hugging me. "Thanks." He smiled grabbing one of the sodas out of my hand getting as close to me as possible. I rolled my eyes realizing he was in fact flirting with me but I knew the way he looked at Lucy he wanted to be with her. We walked up to the counter and Chris brushed his hand against mine getting money out of his pocket. "Gas and these. You guys want anything else?" He looked at Jamie then at me. "I'm good." I looked down and run my finger over the lid of my Dr pepper and got ready to go back outside. "Come on Melody..you need something it's gonna be a long time before we stop again." Chris had gripped my jacket looking me dead in the eyes. "I said I'm okay." I looked back at him hating when people pushed me to do things I didn't want to. He let go and I walked outside sitting on the cement by the car as Jamie came out on Chris's back and she was hanging on to a bag of Doritos laughing at him. I got up and crossed my arms. "Well don't you two look cute." I didn't even realize Munro and the others were parked up ahead of us and had walked up to us. Munro could tell there was jealousy in my voice but Lucy jumped on me knocking me down onto the concrete and I smacked my head. "Smooth Lucy." Chris smarted at her as I held my head. "Damn." I looked at my hand seeing only a little bit of blood. "I'm sorry Melody. Do we need to get you to a doctor or something?" She looked at me as I sat up. "I'm fine just a little dizzy and now have a throbbing headache." Chris ran back inside grabbing some aspirin and some gauze in case I needed it and came back out. "Here." He handed me the bag with stuff in it and I just climbed in the car holding my head. "You guys I feel horrible." Lucy looked at Jamie and Chris and they reassured her it was okay that I wasn't mad. "Lucy I'm fine lets just get there and enjoy the concert." I yelled out the window feeling like my head was going to explode. Lucy ran back to the car and Munro was keeping his gaze on me and opened the drivers door getting in slamming it closed. "Great." I closed my eyes laying my head back on the seat jumping forward feeling a sharp pain in my head again. "What's great?" Chris looked back at me as he climbing in the car. "Nothing." I closed my eyes laying my head on the seat. "Come on. Maybe I can help?" Chris was determined to find out what was bothering me but I was stubborn. "Munro's pissed off at me." I sighed taking two aspirin trying to open my Dr pepper getting frustrated. Chris took the bottle and opened it for me. "There. All better." He smiled handing me the bottle and lid back and I took a sip out of it. "Now why would he be mad at a pretty girl like you?" He smiled climbing in the car next to me. "Because he thinks since you're flirting with me that I'll fall for you." I looked at him holding my head again rubbing the knot forming on my skull. "I'll admit I would be jealous too if I saw someone flirting with a girl I liked." He hugged me close climbing out of the car. "Just give it time alright?" He smiled at me rubbing my cheek. "Try and focus on something else." He started up the car as Jamie came running back from Munro's car. "Lucy said we're gonna stop at the closest hotel and stop driving till morning." Jamie jumped in the car and Munro pulled out nearly hitting another car. "Idiot." I smirked. "He better be careful driving pissed off especially with Lucy in the car. She'll kick him out and drive if he gets worse." Before I knew it we were pulling up to a hotel about 45 minutes from the gas station we had stopped at. Munro was walking up to the entrance and Lucy and Zeik following close behind and I hopped out of the car as we stopped. I caught up with the others and Chris and Jamie followed behind. Aiden picked me up on his back and I laid my head on his shoulder exhausted from driving. Chris walked up next to Aiden brushing my hair out of my face. Aiden looked over at Chris. "Is she asleep already?" Aiden questioned him as Chris looked at me smiling. "Yeah, she's out. Poor girl's had a rough day. Munro's stressing her out and she whacked her head pretty hard." He looked at Aiden as Jamie, Lucy and Munro walked up to the clerks desk getting a room. They headed upstairs to the room as Aiden and Chris stayed behind talking about me while I was fast asleep on Aiden's back. Zeik had stepped outside for a smoke and Chris decided to take me off Aiden's back. "What do you know about her that's happened lately?" Chris asked Aiden as he stretched his back sitting in the lobby while Chris had me in his lap with me laying against his chest. "I know she just went through a lot lately with some Dustin guy. Lucy and Munro know more about it then I do." He replied as I snuggled closer to Chris mumbling in my sleep. I was having that nightmare again and I kept stirring in my sleep. Chris just hugged me closer to him. "What else do you know?" He asked rubbing my back trying to calm me back to sleep. "Honestly if I tell you this you have to keep it to yourself." He looked over at Chris serious and he nodded agreeing to keep it to himself. "Dustin raped her..." He slipped out and shock grew over Chris's face. "Seriously?" He managed to slip out. "Yeah then the bastard burned down her house and torments her everytime he's near her. It's horrible, but she won't tell the police because she's scared of him hurting her again. That's why she's how she is." Chris stood up and my feet dangled slowly as they walked upstairs to find the room everyone was in. "Well I may not know her as well as you guys do but I'll protect her. She doesn't deserve to live in fear like this." Chris hugged me closer to him like a mother does a child. Was he really going to protect me from the monster that tortured me? Aiden found the room and Munro was laying in a bed with Zeik sitting at the foot of it. "Where's everyone sleeping?"Aiden asked looking around. Lucy looked at me realizing I was asleep and turned off the television. Munro had his back to Chris seeing I was asleep in his arms. Zeik was coming upstairs and tapped on the door before opening it. "They have a pool outside, anyone wanna go swimming?" He asked blankly. "I do, but none of us brought bathing suits." Jamie smiled. "So what do we do?" Zeik frowned. "You're right...but we all have undies and no one's out there." He smiled pulling off his shirt. "What the hell, why not." Jamie ran out the door and down the stairs and Lucy followed her with Zeik and Aiden looked at Chris who was still holding me. "You wanna go?" Aiden asked Chris. "No I'm gonna stay up here with her." He sat on the bed still clutching me close to him. "Alright man." He patted Chris's arm looking at me. "She really is something special. It's horrible that she has to go through this." Aiden sat in front of Chris rubbing my head. Munro wasn't asleep, he was listening to every word that Aiden and Chris were saying. "Chris do me a favor?" Aiden asked looking at me. "Yeah?" Chris looked up at him. "What is it?" Aiden got up. "Keep an eye on her when I'm not around. Munro can't keep his emotions in check enough to help her." Chris nodded yawning slightly. "Of course." Aiden walked downstairs to everyone else who was stripping to swim. Lucy kept on just her undies and jumped in first and then Zeik jumped in in some striped boxers. Would have been quite a sight had I actually been awake to watch them. Munro was fuming but finally fell asleep and it was just Chris and me. I was asleep but conscious enough to hear him. Everyone was swimming and apparently Zeik grabbed Aiden's butt and everyone screamed and laughed as Aiden took Zeik's boxers and threw them out of the pool. Chris's heart rate slowed down scaring me a little so I tried opening my eyes without him noticing then I realized his were closed and his breathing was slow. He had fallen asleep holding me. I tried to move but I didn't want to wake him so I just closed my eyes and before I knew it I was back asleep.
