The Crown

40 - Caden

I stared out the window of my office as I watched the wolves run back and forth, doing their daily jobs. Since leaving the hiddle library and finding out the truth of not only my ancestors but also that I was a reincarnated wolf still had a hold of my thoughts. My pup would be the first wolf to break the cycle of death cause by The Claw if its born. The Run would end and every wolf would have a true mate. One that matches their own wolf just as Grace matches mine.

I turned to look at the map of The Run sprawled out on the meeting table just across from my desk. Pins that located the traps had been growing since we started and I was dure we had found every last one. Now it was onto removing them. With so much going on I find it harder to focus on my job as a King and more on my job as a mate and as a father.

"Oh Caden you're here." Karina calls out, catching my attention as I turn to my little sister with a smile.

"Yeah just trying to get work done. How was baking with Grace?" After we left the library Grace had a craving for chocolate chip cookies she learned to bake as a pup and Karina had showed up just in time for my mate to steal my sister and whisk her away for "baking time" as my mate put it. It was funny seeing the hopeless look on Liam's face as he trailed after the two.

"It was interesting. That Liam guy..." I see a slight blush creep on my sisters cheeks and couldn't help but chuckle. My sister had a habit of gaining a new crush on some unfortunate wolf. It would last for a week then be gone. She wasn't ready to settle down with a mate just yet tho.

"Too bad he's gay. His looks attract a lot of she wolves' gaze." I manage not to spit out my coffee I was in the middle of drinking as her words fill the air.

"He's gay?" I ask a little shocked, wiping my mouth off as I place the cup of coffee on my desk and lean against it.

"Yeah. Its forbidden to have same sex mates and I told him I would bring it up to you so you could fix it. Everyone deserves a happily ever after." My sister was right. The laws about mates were strict and Grace and I were slowly in the process of changing them. I guess I knew what laws I needed to focus on right now to help wolves live happily.

"A lot of the older wolves aren't going to like this but can you help me find all the laws about mates and matting. They are some where in the filing cabinets. If Liam is gay then I want him to be able to mate with the one he loves. You're right, Every wolf should have love." I couldn't help the soft smile that came to my face. Slowly the rules of my nation were changing. It would take time to get used to it but it had to happen in order for my mate, my pup and future pups to come, and for my family and friends to be safe.

For an hour Karina and I spent time searching for the files that contained all the laws of mating and mates. Some were atrocious and had to be removed while others just needed a tweak here and there. When we finally found the one about gay mates I couldn't help but smile.

"Think you could get the broadcasting system up in the other room in ten?" I ask my sister who just smiled and nodds, leaving my office to go across the hall.

[Grace think you can come to my office. Wear something professional that screams I'm the Alpha Queen and I will kick your åss"] I link my mate as I grab the blazer I kept in the closet.

[Sure what's this about?] She asks and I couldn't help but smile.

[Its time we announce out idea for The Run and some law changes.] I could feel her excitement through the link after I tell her the reason. I knew she wanted to start talking about the changes we were making but it wasn't time yet. Not until everyone could find some peace of mind and happiness.

[Liam and I will be down in fifteen. I'll bring your crown as well.] She hurries out before the link is shut off and I am left with the silence of my office. I was happy Liam took his job as his sister's guard seriousely. Even happier that in about twenty minutes I could give him the best surprise ever. A chance to be with a mate he loves.

As a King it was my job to fix the fücked up mess my father and ancestors left me with and today would fully bring in the change
