FALL

The University of Eastern Colorado was absolutely not what you were expecting. You had thought it would have been a fairly small campus, the three of you finding your way in easily and run into the Fireflies. But the campus was huge, and finding the building that 'looked like a mirror' grew more and more challenging the deeper into the campus you got. There was only one horse, Joel having Ellie give hers up to Tommy after they left and had her hop on behind you and him. The events of that day had been strenuous, being present and standing awkwardly in the corner while Ellie and Joel hashed out their personal problems was not how you imagined hearing about Sarah again. You had known Joel back then, being there when the guard fired off rounds and sent Joel and Sarah tumbling down the hill. You had been there to shoot the guard, only to see Sarah with blood staining her grey pajama shirt and Joel crying over her body as the light faded from her eyes. You both parted ways after that, only reuniting 20 years later and joining his adventure with Ellie.

"You have to sing for me."

Ellie joked, a smile playing on her lips as she chuckled quietly to herself from behind you. Joel scoffed in mock annoyance, not being able to see his face but knowing he was rolling his eyes anyway. "Yeah, right." He dismissed, waving the little girl off with his hand as you three galloped through the old and abandoned streets of the University. "I bet you have a wonderful voice, Joel." You piped up, sending a discreet wink over your shoulder to Ellie, who smiled brightly at you joining in. "In fact, that one time you sang 'Jingle Bells' for Christmas when you had too much spiked egg nog? Classic." You smiled when he sent you a glare from over his broad shoulder, grunting in reply as always. "What's egg nog?" Ellie questioned, being born after the outbreak meant she knew nothing of what really existed in the modern world. "Egg nog is something I hope you never have to drink. It's absolutely disgusting." You scrunched up your nose, remembering the one time Joel made you drink a whole glass on a dare, and from the barely there smile on his face he was remembering it too. "What's in it?" She asked, her curiosity getting the better of her as Joel pulled the horse from a trot to a stop. A closed metal gate was ahead, all three of you dismounting but continuing the conversation.

"It's basically like really thick milk but with cream, egg whites, egg yolks, nasty crap like that." You pretended to throw up, making a gagging noise and smiling when Ellie laughed loudly. "Cut it out you two." Joel cut you both off, not bothering to turn around to speak but instead glance around to see how to get the gate open. "Fun sponge." You muttered to Ellie, who in turn had to cover her mouth to stop from laughing too loud and turned to follow Joel. "Alright, I'm gonna go find the generator. You two, stay here and watch each other's backs, okay?" He ordered, his index finger pointing to both you and Ellie as his eyebrows furrowed under the weight of all the stress he was under.

Before long, Joel had found the generator and had led you all inside a building, climbing the flights of stairs and taking out the infected and clickers that lingered around. Eventually you all came to a door, an object on the other side blocking it making Joel have to push on it a few times to get it out of the way. "Y/N, come help me with this." He called and you holstered your gun to take position beside him, his arm only inches away from yours. "Ready?" He murmured, pushing together once with the object budging a little bit. You repeated the action a few times before it finally gave way and you both stumbled into the room together, Ellie trailing behind and closing the door behind her. In a chair by the desk sat an old body with what looked like a hole in its skull, probably from when they decided to end it and put a bullet in their brain.
