We all finished breakfast and started to walk back to Gryffindor, apart from Draco of course who had to go to Slytherin. Everyone in our year had one hour to study for the first mock in their respective common rooms.
I sat at a table and got some of my books out. Everyone quieted down, well as quiet at Gryfinndors could get, and began to study. Hermione was miming her notes she had already prepared. Dean wrote notes directly from his book. Ron stared blankly at the first page of a book he had clearly never even looked at before. Seamus just rested his head on an open book, hoping to absorb the knowledge directly to his brain. Neville was walking up and down reading a book in his head.
I opened my book. The first exam was on charms. I hadn't studied because I found charms a breeze, unlike potions which I am dreading. I made some quick notes on different wand movements and before I knew it the hour was up.
Professor McGonagall led us to the great hall, which had single tables in neat columns and rows, rather than the classic long tables. Hufflepuff, then Ravenclaw, then Gryfinndor and finally Slytherin sat down.
I saw Seamus and Dean give each other a thumbs up. I looked in the Slytherin row for Draco. We locked eyes and he gave me a reassuring nod, I gave him a hopeful smile.
"You may now begin" McGonagall announced to everyone.
The questions appeared on the parchment placed on our desks earlier. I picked up my quill and looked over the first question.
1. What is the correct wand posture for the silencer charm?
Too easy, I answered quickly and moved on the next question. The questions got increasingly harder. The very last question stumped me for a while.
30. What colour of light is emitted when a freezing spell is cast?
But after a few moments I felt sure that the correct answer was blue.
I put my quill down and looked around, Hermione was also finished, this was probably so easy for her that she didn't even have to think. Everyone else was left scribbling. I continued to look around. I noticed that Draco had also finished as well as a couple of others.
A short while later Professor Flitwick banged the gong, signifying the end of the exam. With a wave of her wand, McGonagall directed all the papers onto her desk at the front of the room.
"Thank you, everyone, you may now return to your respective houses and wait until lunch. We were let out in he same order we were let in. Everyone went ahead to Gryfinndor, I told them I was waiting for Draco.
Draco came out moments later talking to Blaise, presumably about the test.
"Thanks for waiting" he said as he spotted me.
"It takes real guts to break in the Slytherin common room" Blaise said to me.
"Nothing I hadn't done before" I said shrugging my shoulders.
He laughed before walking back to Slytherin with Pansy.
"So how did you find it?" Draco asked putting his arm around my shoulder as we walked back.
"Pretty good, you?" I asked.
"Easy" he said confidently, "I did notice you move around on your chair a lot" Draco said with a smirk.
"The seats were just hard" I said not wanting to give him the satisfaction.
"Oh, the seats were hard" he said mimicking me, "if you're sure that's what it was."
"I'm sure" I said playfully punching his arm.
Everyone was talking about the test when we got back to Gryffindor. Draco joined in discussing answers.
I took this little bit of free time to have a shower and get changed into my quidditch clothes, not the protective gear just the jumper and trousers.
I came downstairs, me changing reminded Ron he had to and Draco as well. He kissed me on the forehead before running back to Slytherin.
Lunch rolled around and we were all sitting chatting. Draco was sitting at the Slytherin table, presumably talking about the upcoming match. Wood rushed over to us,
"Here's the game plan" he said giving me and Ron a piece of paper each.
"Everyone else knows so don't worry, there may be some slight inconsistencies as I was up late planning it" he said before rushing off.
"He's always busy nowadays" Ron remarked looking at the paper.
I tried to hide my smile as I knew what had kept him occupied.
Lunch finished and everyone made their way over to the quidditch stadium. Both teams were lined up ready to be called out. I looked at Draco, Wood looked at Marcus, and Pansy (who was there for some reason) looked at Ginny.
You could cut the sexual tension with a knife.
Dean announced Slytherin first, they were met with both cheers and boos. Gryffindor was announced and I made my way into the fire of cheers with the rest of my teammates. I noticed Hermione in the crowd with Luna.
Luna was holding a red, sparkly banner that changed between, 'GO GRYFINNDOR" and "GO GINNY" every few seconds.
Madam Hooch blew the whistle and the game began. Gryffindor took an early lead with some skilled goals. Fred and George were excellent beaters. Wood congratulated everyone when he could.
Slytherin began to fight back though and pushed a few goals in. We were now pretty much tied. As always it seemed to be up to me to secure the win.
Suddenly Draco dashed off, he'd seen it, the snitch. I sped up after him, I was on his tail. He looked back at me and winked. Lunging forward he let go of his broom and made a grab for the little golden ball.
He held it up in the air triumphantly.
I couldn't believe it, Slytherin had won. Just like that. I was filled with equal parts of sadness and pride. The crowd couldn't believe it either, it was deadly silent until the Slytherins realised what had happened and erupted with cheers. Wood put his head in his hands.
As we walking back to the changing rooms he pulled me aside.
"Thanks for not telling anyone about me and, you know" he said in a whisper.
"I don't believe in outing people" I said reassuringly.
"I just wanted to let you know that I won't let anything distract me from quidditch again. That's why I'm ending it" he said giving me a pat on the shoulder.
"No don't," I said to his surprise, "you two are good for each other. Just try to save the nights before a game"
"Thanks, Harry" he said giving a nod and briskly walking off.
"IM THE WINNER!" I heard Draco bellow from inside the tent. I just shook my head and laughed.
