I didn't really get to sleep properly but Ron woke me up from my half-sleep with a,
"Bloody hell Harry!"
I lifted my head up immediately.
"What's wrong?" I asked frantically looking for my wand.
"What happened? You bunked off and you come back like this?" He said gesturing to my chest.
"I'll explain at breakfast," I said.
"Jeez Harry, you can't ever catch a break," he said still shook up.
He walked out, presumably for a shower. I heaved myself out of bed, held on to every piece of furniture for balance, as I trudged my way over to the mirror.
The bandages I put on this morning still looked clean and good. My hair was absolutely awful, every single strand seamed to hate one another and stuck up as far away as they could. My glasses were surprisingly fine and apart from my chest injury, I seemed pretty unscathed.
I walked down to the common room to collect some of my books. I looked at my timetable to see what exam I had today: potions. Just my luck.
I groaned and flicked through my potions books, it was French to me. I didn't even know what potions we had to revise for. I let my head collapse on to the table.
"Harry?" A voice enquired.
"Yes," I said with exhaustion as I raised my head to see who it was.
Neville stood in front of me with a huge stack of paper, textbooks and mock tests in his hands.
He had a sympathetic look on his face, I hadn't realised how tall he had gotten.
"Do you need some help?" he said gently setting down his revision onto the table.
I looked at the stack confused as to why he had done so much.
He patted the pile and said:
"I don't want to give any reason for Snape to insult me," he said with a hint of shame.
It was now my turn to look sympathetic. Neville always tried hard in potions. He's not naturally gifted at it, but his commitment has meant that he's not actually that bad at it. He doesn't want to be in Snape's firing line. What Neville didn't, or didn't want to understand was that no matter how well or not well he did, Snape would always find a reason to use him as his personal punching bag.
He slid me a piece of parchment, on it was a short summary of the potions we needed to study.
"Thanks," I said with a weak smile.
I began to scan across the information, trying to make it go into my brain.
It was hopeless, but I didn't want Neville to feel bad so I soldiered on.
I wasn't the worst in the world at potions, a mixture of an awful teacher and a lack of motivation to properly study meant that I often lacked the knowledge to show off some skill.
In the exam, we will be asked to produce one potion and answer questions on all of the others.
A few other Gryfinndors trailed out of their dorms and into the common room.
The outline of my bandages was visible from my white shirt, but no one made any comment.
Ron and Hermione came down and all four of us headed to breakfast.
Neville brought revision with him to do at the breakfast table.
The selection was great as usual. Every time someone with a green tie entered the room I would turn my head to see if it was him.
It never was.
Eventually, Hermione caught on to what I was doing and placed her hand on my wrist.
It was nice to have Hermione back. Ron obviously felt it the most, but we were all grateful. To be perfectly honest I don't know how much longer we would have survived without her limitless intelligence and clever wit.
But above all, her logic. She balanced us all out.
Hermione is really a good friend to have.
Ron shoved a sausage into his mouth and said,
"Alright, Hazza?"
Hermione and I looked at each other before bursting into laughter.
"What?" Ron pleased.
"Nothing Ronald," Hermione said as she looked into his eyes with a charming smile.
"What?" He asked looking at me.
"You couldn't have done something more Ron Weasley than what you just did," I said recovering.
Ron laughed as well.
"Apart from beat everyone at wizard's chess," Neville said looking up momentarily from a large textbook he seemed to want to read before the first period.
I looked around at us all laughing,
It was nice to be at home with my family.
