Ego

I sped walked slashed sprinted back to the common room and then to the showers. It was a little later in the morning now so they were all occupied.

It's little problems like this that I don't understand why wizards put up with. Like I might be missing something because I was raised by muggles, stupidly horrific muggles, but what's stopping someone from just magicking like twenty more showers so no one has to wait.

I stood in the queue, without a towel or anything to cover myself up with afterwards.

The first years in front of me saw who I was and let me go first when one became free.

"Oh no really I can't," I said feeling like I was taking advantage of them.

"You can just don't let Hogwarts lose" the first year replied.

"I'll keep that in mind," I said before I scurried over to the shower.

"Is that you Harry?" I heard a voice shout over the sound of the rushing water. I couldn't make out if the voice was Fred or George.

"Yes it is, unfortunately, without a towel" I replied.

"Well that's confident of you" one of the twins replied.

"Take this extra one," the other twin said chucking a towel over the showers, I caught it before it hit the wet ground.

"Cheers" I replied as I hung the towel up and started to take my clothes off. I placed them on the other side of the shower curtain on the floor.

I was in my favourite shower, the one that was near the window so it created a rainbow when it was sunny. It was raining and overcast but just being in this shower made me feel better.

"Sorry, yeah sorry excuse me" I heard a familiar voice echo off the tile walls.

"Wood?" I called out.

"Yes," he replied in a rush.

Not long after I had heard his voice I heard more water running.

"Isn't there another shower room for prefects and heads of teams and stuff like that?" The twins asked.

"Yes, but it's a long walk away and I'm in a bit of a rush" he replied quickly.

"Well I gave my extra towel to Harry so I can't help you there," Fred or George said.

"I've brought my own thank you" he replied with a hint of confusion.

"Hear that Harry, that's why he's the captain" the twins shouted over to me.

"Yeah, yeah" I replied washing my hair.

I stepped out of the shower in my borrowed towel to discover my kit had been picked up off the floor and it had been replaced by some clean and folded kit that had been conveniently placed on a chair.

I picked the kit up and went to my dorm to put it on.

"Merlin's beard you take long showers" Fred exclaimed as I sat down for breakfast.

"Probably shaving his legs" Flint joked.

I sent a middle finger his way and looked at the food in front of me. None of it seemed to be particularly appetising as it usually was.

I picked up some dry toast and forced myself to take some bites.

"Where's Draco and co?" I asked.

"They are coming, I saw them getting ready" Flint said. He and Wood were sitting next to each other without Flint having to constantly throw insults at him to cling on to his toxic image of masculinity.

Progress.

I had asked because I guess it's still at the back of my mind that Draco needs to eat and it's not something he thinks about like perhaps you or I do.

It was one of the things that made me realise I loved him. It wasn't necessarily his hair or demeanour, or the way my stomach filled with butterflies when he touched me. Although his hair was stunning. But little things like that.

Like worrying if he'd eaten, or if be remembered to sleep with a pillow so his neck didn't hurt the next day. Hugging him when we woke up together just in case he had a nightmare he hadn't told me about. Making sure he wraps up when it's cold even if he protests that a coat would ruin the effect of his outfit.

I see things and think of him. Every time we are apart I'm constantly telling myself to remember things so I can tell him about them later. I ask him to explain things to me I already know just so I can just listen to him talk for a little while.

I love the boy so much it hurts.

So yeah, I worry when he misses a meal. And I know he's trying hard. Really hard. So I don't want to insult him by making him think I don't trust him. It's that I don't trust myself. I don't trust the person I would become without him.

Because I can't go back, there is no longer a Harry Potter before Draco Malfoy, and I'm certain I don't want to know any other.

Somewhere in an alternate universe there is a Harry that never got that letter, a Harry that never had a tall hairy man bring him to a world that would change his life forever.

Although Hagrid had created my life, and Voldemort had given my life purpose:

It was Draco that made me want to live it.

"Harry, are you listening?" Wood asked snapping me back to reality.

"No" I replied as I forced myself to swallow another bite of my dry toast.

"You need to catch the snitch as quickly as possible alright? I need this to be a short game, and I mean short, like ten seconds would be ideal" Wood explained to me.

"Catch the snitch, got it" I replied.

"No, catch the snitch quickly" he reiterated.

He then turned to everyone.

"Look, I'm not going to lie to you, Durmstrang is a strong team, really strong. And that's what we are going to use" Wood explained.

"Well that's filling me with confidence" Flint commented.

"Just listen," Cedric told Flint.

Flint looked ready to beat Cedric to death.

"They're strong, but they know it. They are clouded by their ego. They are expecting to beat us with goals, and they would. Let's take that away from them." Wood explained.

There were murmurs of agreement around the table.

***

We had started to walk down to the pitch.

We bumped into Draco, Pansy and Blaise who were making their way to a very late breakfast.

Draco winked at me as we passed, his new jewellery catching my attention.

Maybe we could beat Durmstrang after all.
