Alec's POV

Jake, Ryder and I sat on the couch downstairs watching TV. I was lounging across the couch like a starfish when I heard a high pitched noise.

The three of us sat up and looked around at each other curiously. It came again and my brow furrowed. It almost sounded like . . . a sneeze?

"Alpha Ryder!" Kylie's irritated voice echoed down the stairs.

His wolves eyes flashed in Ryder's eyes and he clenched his fists and jaw in irritation at her lack of respect. "What?!" He demanded, making all of us flinch.

Footfalls slammed down the stairs before Kylie stormed into the kitchen, long black hair flying out behind her due to her brisk pace. She walked back out with a steaming mug and blanket.

Here cool eyes glanced over us in distaste. "Unbelievable." she muttered, turning to leave walking back up the stairs. "You all just sit around while Red's sick." Bolting up right my eyes locked on Ryder's. Red? Sick?

The two of us raced up the stairs after Kylie. Jake not far behind. When we burst in the room Red's hair was disheveled and one hand was over her face the other brushing Kylie's concern off.

Ryder was by Red's side immediately. He knelt down beside the bed where Red sat.

Her legs hung over the edge in loose yoga pants and a big sweatshirt. She shook a moment before squeaking or sneezing actually. Her hair flew forward and when her hand lowered the tip of her nose was pink.

She might be a dangerous hunter and mated to an alpha who'd rip my throat out, but I couldn't help but mentally 'Aww' and how cute and childish she looked.

Kylie and Jake both rolled their eyes in amusement. They locked eyes a moment before they seemed to quietly shrug something off. That was weird. Looking back at Red I saw Ryder beside her now, pulling her to his chest with frustration as she braced her arms, pushing him away.

"It's my job to take care of you when you're sick love." He whispered. Too bad all we werewolves can still hear him, like when he occasionally comments about her butt under his breath. She can't hear him and i think that's why he forgets we can. It's pretty bad.

"I haven't been sick in years; I'm no no n cho!" She gave such a little sneeze you wouldn't expect the murderous look that followed after our blessings. Her sleeves lowered from her pink face so slowly I gulped and so did Jake. "Next time you even think the word cute, I'll kill you." Oh man, she's mean when she's sick.

"Yes, yes." Kylie shook her head at Red. Red took the mug sipping it quietly and closed her eyes. Kylie took the mug back, brushing Ryder's reluctant arm away, and pushhing Red gently down into the bed and throwing the other blanket over her.

Red gave a single dry laugh. "So motherly Kylie."

"As if. If I come back and you aren't asleep, I'll kill you." The threat pulled a growl from the three of us, but she ignored it and after a minute I convinced my wolf to let it go.

Jake and I followed Kylie out and after a few minutes, Ryder joined us much to our suprise.

"She doesn't want me to get sick." He growled, throwing himself on the couch angrily. I knew better than to laugh out loud.

He stayed grumpy like that for two hours. Kylie had joined us down stairs, practically ignoring us but refusing to leave.

Hearing footfalls we all turned to watch Red stumble off the last step.

Jake was closest and reflexively reached a hand out to help her. "Igotit." she mumbled brushing away his hand. Ryder stood up anxiously. "I got it." She said louder putting out her arms

We all watched her walk to the kitchen slowly. She came back out with a cup and sat down.

Kylie peered into the cup and shook her head. "Red you don't like cranberry juice." Red looked up at her slowly with big eyes.

"I don't?"

"No, you don't." Kylie assured, taking the cup and placing it on the table.

While her back was turned Ryder scooped up Red. "No." We all stared at her starting at Ryder. No? No what? She turned, jumping, then stumbling, out of his arms. "Kylie." Kylie caught her.

"You are such a brat when you're sick." Kylie muttered, putting Red's arm around her shoulders and leading her up stairs.

I wish I was upstairs right now. Ryder's fists were clenched and he was shaking. We didn't blame him. His sick mate just chose an omega over him. It's more than any male let alone alpha can handle.

His fist flew into the wall and I nodded to Jake. We both seized one of his arms, dragging him outside.

The moment he was outside he shifted and took off.

Red get well soon.

It was over an hour later that Ryder returned. He seemed calmer, until I realized Damon had control. A wildness flashed in his eyes and I feared for Kylie. Upon that fear I realized what he was going to do.

Damon took one look at Kylie and had her by the throat. Damon wanted to kill Kylie.

Her feet swung out and clawed at his hand, but the disobedience only angered him further.

"Alpha!" I shouted and his eyes flickered to me for only a moment. "You're going to kill her!" His grip only tightened and she gasped. He didn't care. He just didn't care. "Red won't forgive you." I warned.

This time his head turned to face me. "Red is mine. She will forgive me." He spoke so sure of himself. He'd long since surpassed reason.

I looked for Jake but he was gone. Did he run? He wouldn't. Would he?

"Damon!" His head snapped around instantly to see Jake and Red standing at the bottom of the stairs.

His eyes flickered with love before returning to his resolve. "This Omega-" he began.

"Kill me." My blood ran cold. A fierce growl ripped from his chest but Red only tapped her heart. "Kill me or I will do it myself." She was so sure of her self and my wolf whimpered in pain at the thought. "I would rather be dead then watch you brutally murder a member of this pack."

It was enough to terrify him. Dropping Kylie he swept Red into his arms desperately. "No." He inhaled her scent a long moment. "Don't ever say that to me." Wether it was a beg or a plea I wasn't sure. It was probably both.

She sniffled before a high pitched squeak escaped. Damon chuckled lifting her up. "Come love. You're still sick." Looking around his arm Red locked eyes with me before nodding to the side.

Following her eye sight I saw Kylie. Jake was gently holding her shoulders with one arm, the other keeping her head up to help her breathing.

The way he held her was strange. It almost seemed endearing. Jake's eyes locked with mine, a primal look, resembling Ryder's flashing in his eyes.

"Take care of her." He nodded to me as I walked out the door, leaving them. Whatever had happened between them was their business.
