"Where were you?" I immediately asked Hayden but he just shrugged. "Hayden Marshall Blackburn, stay right there." Carson ordered and Hayden closed the front door before leaning his back against it.
"How are you?" I asked, slightly narrowing my eyes and Hayden crossed his arms, "I'm fine."
"No, Hayden! Stop! You're doing it again!" I said and he just stared right back at me. "I'm not doing anything! I'm fine!"
"No, you're not!" I argued back, "You're blocking us out again!" Hayden sighed and looked to Carson, "Can I go?" Carson bit his lip, shaking his head, "Sorry buddy. Maddie's in charge this time."
I took out my phone and dialed Leah's number before looking back up at Hayden. "I think you should see a therapist." I blurted out and Carson and him started laughing.
"Excuse me, what?" Hayden asked and I rolled my eyes and hit Carson so he stopped laughing, "You need someone to talk to." I told him and he opened his mouth and closed it a few times before speaking again.
"And why do I need to talk to a therapist?"
"Because you need to tell someone how you feel about what you saw." I told him and he clenched his jaw and looked away, "And you need someone to help you learn how to trust again."
"What do you mean learn to trust?" He asked and I rolled my eyes, "You have a trust issue. You don't trust anyone, with anything." I said and he bit his lip. "That's not true." He muttered and I sat up straight, "Oh okay. Who was the last person you trusted?" I asked and he answered almost immediately.
"Leah."
I laughed before shaking my head at him, "Dude there are three things wrong with that and you know it." I said before smiling, "One, she's your cousin. Two, she's your best friend. And three, she's fourteen." I pointed out and he shrugged, "So?"
I sighed and pressed the call button on my phone and putting it on speaker. "Speaker. Hayden. Bad." I got out and she instantly replied, "Whose there?"
"The Konstantinovs." I told her and she said a quick hello to her cousins before questioning me on Hayden. "He's got a trust issue." I blurted.
"I know that."
"Hey!" Hayden called out. "Is that all?" She asked, "No."
"He punched someone the other day." I told her and the line was quiet for about two minutes. "Excuse me? I thought you just said that Hayden punched somebody." Leah forced a laugh, "That's what I said."
"But I thought nobody down there knew--"
"They don't." Carson cut her off. "Well then why--?" Leah stopped herself before squealing. "Hayden? Do you have something that you'd like to tell me?" She asked and Hayden scratched the back of his head. "Nope."
"Liar!" She screamed, "Jeez Le. Calm down. I just punched a guy, it's not the end of the world." Hayden muttered. "Actually it's a huge deal! Because you haven't been in a physical fight since you were fourteen."
"And how would you remember that?" He teased. "I was eleven not two." She said. "And don't sass me mister! I am coming down to Omaha and you have to tell me what's going on!"
"Le, you know it's her." Carson stepped in and Hayden and I turned to Carson, our jaws dropping. "Oh my gosh, I think you might be right." She said after a few moments. "Who 'her'? Who is her?" I asked, turning to Hayden.
"Why do you tell Carson stuff but not me?" I asked and he shrugged. "You're too y--"
"I'm thirteen!"
"How would you like it if I had a secret boyfriend?" I asked and Carson and Hayden laughed. "You wouldn't because we'd kick his butt." Carson said and Hayden nodded, going along with our younger brothers violence.
"Listen Hayden. I'm calling you later and if you don't answer, may God help you." Leah told him and he rolled his eyes.
"Lo sentimos, no hablo Inglés." He spoke and Leah laughed, "You can't do that anymore! I do remember that English was your third language." She chuckled and Hayden clicked his teeth. "Dammit!"
"Mi pequeño Hayden está enamorado." Leah sighed, dreamily. "I'm older than you!" He pointed out, "So?" She asked.
Carson and I looked at each other before speaking to the two, "Y'all are so alike."
"No, we're not!" They both denied and Carson and I gave Hayden a look. "Okay so maybe we're a bit alike."
"And no I'm not Leah!" Hayden suddenly said. "Hayden. It's okay to be scared." Leah softly spoke before hanging up. Hayden bit his lip before running up the stairs -- To get his headphones I presume.
He then came back down with his headphones and iPhone and ran out the house, yet again.
"He's scared of love." I muttered, but I'm sure everyone heard me. "Of course, he is." Carson stood up and kissed my forehead before heading upstairs.
I looked around the room, "Carrie?" I asked, "has Hayden mentioned any crushes to you?" I asked and she softly smiled before shaking her head, "Nope."
I creased my eyebrows -- a habit I had picked up from Hayden and nodded, "Riiight." I dragged out -- another thing we Blackburns do. I didn't believe her. Not one bit.
I smirked as I snuck a glance at Hailey as I skipped upstairs. I had a few guesses on who it was. And by a few, I meant one that I was almost positive was right.
