When Mr Gold arrived, the elf popping him in the hall and leaving straight after, he could hear sobbing coming from the living room of the apartment. As he got closer to the room he could hear another voice talking. He stood back to listen. "I know this is hard to believe my boy, but I'm afraid it's true. Sirius is a deathea..." The old voice, dripping with false pity, was cut off by Lupin's scream. "NO! SIRIUS ISN'T A TRAITOR! YOU'RE WRONG ALBUS!" 'So it's Dumbledore.' Gold thought with a sneer, still hiding behind the corner. "I understand your reluctance to believe me, he is the last of your pack after all." There was a silence before Dumbledore sighed in exasperation. "I will leave your letter from Lily on the table. Floo me when you've calm down enough to realise the truth Remus. I still need to visit Severus to inform him of Lily's passing. Hogwarts headmaster's quarters, lemon drops!" The fire flares before all is silent. As Remus reaches to pick up the letter with a strong spell on it, Gold decides to make himself known. "I wouldn't do that if I were you dearie." He said walking out from his hiding space, making the wolf jump and pull out his wand. "Who are you?" Remus all but shouted, pointing his wand at Gold. "A friend. And as a friend I'm telling you that you don't want to open that letter." Gold said while gesturing to the letter. "Why not?" Remus is still stiff, not moving his eyes away from the stranger in his home. "Because as soon as you open that letter, peace's of the puzzle will be forced together even though they don't match up." "What?" Remus asks in confusion. "Of the two, who where you closer to, and who would you expect to write you a letter? Not Lily Potter, your best friends wife. But if James Potter was impersonated in a letter then you would know." Gold spoke, to convince the wolf he wasn't the threat. "I know for a fact that dear Lily Potter wouldn't leave anything with Albus Dumbledore. He did try to manipulate her daughter after all." Gold said before adding in as an afterthought "well, my daughter now." "You have Harriet?" Remus seemed shocked yet relieved at that information. 'I will need to ask about that at some point' he thought before he continued. "And adopted her, yes, but her name has been changed." Gold stood straight while talking, as if challenging the wolf to contest his adoption or renaming. "A name is a powerful thing after all. I'd rather her name not be known by Albus Dumbledore."
Once he was confident he wouldn't be interrupted, Gold continued. "I'm offering you a deal that I suggest you think very carefully about. You will be given one month to set your priorities in order and pack. After that month you will be coming with me to my town and teaching my daughter all you know about your world. In return I get your friend off the hook and give you a home and anything you need to get yourself started in my town." Gold stated the terms of the deal, wanting to hurry to the next destination. "You have until the end of this month, when I come to collect you, to make up your mind." With that he walked back to the hall he came from, ignoring the call to stop, and the elf popped him away just before Remus rounded the corner leaving the confused wolf with his thoughts.
I'm making this a two part chapter.
