Chapter 8 (Part 2):

Alex's Point Of View:

"OW!" I rub the back of my head. Sore washes over my brain. It hurts like when a baseball hits right on your nose. "WATCH IT, GRANNY! SOMEBODY'S TRYING TO DO SOME JUSTICE HERE!"

Hazel runs over. "Alex! Are you okay?"

"Nah. I'm good."

I won't be surprised when a giant lump appear on my head later. What was the thing that has just hit me?

Nico ducks as a gumball machine pirouettes over his head. "Alex! The Ring of Gyges! It just hit your head!"

Well, that was just fast. I unsheathe the iron sword Nico gave me earlier and run towards a telkhine.

I slash my sword through its torso and it bursts into golden dusts in a cool way that you always see on HBO Channel's action movies. Then I slice my sword through 140839 monsters in that place and the few lucky remaining ones bow down to my feet and beg for my mercy.

Well, no. Not really.

That was what I wanted to happen anyway. The truth is that I ran over at the telkhine but slipped over a puddle of spilled water. My head collides against the marble floor and there were black and white spots dancing over my eyes.

I shake my head vigorously, forcing my eyes to stay wide open. There is a battle going on, and the monsters have already outnumbered us greatly.

Hazel fights like a true kick-butt warrior with her golden sword while Nico is like a spreading disease. No monsters even dared come within 5 feet of his Stygian Iron sword.

I force myself up. Sword tight in hand, I swing blindly in front of me and surprisingly, an Empusa shrieks and falls down. I try to attack a group of Empusa who are charmspeaking and walking on the stage like they are on the Victoria's Secret fashion show.

One of them suddenly turns into a woman with half donkey leg and half bronze mechanical leg and she slashes her claws at me.

Magically, my fantastic arm did a great job at blocking the slash. And somehow, adrenaline automatically rushes through my body and it gave me mountains of energy to spare.

I slash, slice, defend, block, attack and in a few minutes, the Empusai are gone.

To my other surprise, the horde of monsters are still attacking. Who even knows these old senior people knows how to headbutt a Nico di Angelo?

Me, Hazel and Nico collaborate and we are fantastic as a team. We are able to demolish one quarter of the amount of monsters left in there.

But after a while, I start to get worn out and my arms feel like jelly. Nico and Hazel are not any better either.

"They are overwhelming us!" Hazel cries.

"WE'RE DEAD, FOR SURE!" Nico tries to remove a cyclop's weapon in vain.

"Good pun, Nico," I say while wiping beads of sweat on my forehead.

"Huh?"

"Nevermind."

They are getting the best of us. We can't continue this any longer. I focus and think for a way to escape this hot mess AND to get the ring. And that's when it dawns on me.

I run up to the stage mercilessly, whizzing and squeezing past those monsters in a zoom while abandoning my friends while they're about to be killed.

Hazel kicks a cyclop in its belly. "Alex, what are you DOING? Get back here! There are more of us down here!"

I grab the microphone. "LISTEN UP, MONSTERS!"
