My name is Catalina, and I was born into the O'Conner family of Galway, Ireland. My family was certainly well off, though barely a cent was spent on me. Of their six children, I was indefinitely their least favorite. Competing with my older brothers was never easy; they were strong, hardworking, and could carry on our honored family name. I was simply the girl with unruly hair that would rather be in the fields farthest from home.

For a 16 year old, I'm minimally monitored and can often disappear for a day without notice. As you can see, this all made it painfully easy to be able to sail away to America when my country began to crumble.

I packed with no hesitation, slipping onto the nearest boat to set sail. My destination was New York, though I never could have imagined the life I would discover.
