Ryder slowly woke up to happy yells from the pups. He opened his eyes slightly and smiled when he saw his pups playing together. He looked down to Chase. But he wasn't there. His eyes snapped opened as he looked around to the pups. Chase wasn't playing with them.
"Hey, pups. Where's Chase?" Ryder asked them.
"I think he was called somewhere on his pup tag about an hour ago. I think he's helping fix some traffic problems." Marshall answered. Ryder stood up and fixed his clothes.
"When did he leave?" He asked.
"Um.. Maybe a little over an hour ago?" Marshall thought out loud. Ryder looked to the clock and saw it was 9:30am. Not that early, he thought. But then he backtracked the time.
"That means Chase left around 8:30am at the latest. I thought he would've stayed asleep because he stayed up so late." Ryder said. "You guys stay here. I'm just gonna go check on Chase."
"Okay Ryder!" All the pups said as Ryder slid down his pole to the bottom of the Lookout. He got onto his quad bike and drove following the tracker of Chase's pup tag.
He saw Chase's truck and parked next to it. He got off his bike and looked around for the small police pup. Through all the traffic and noises, he saw Chase directing the cars with his cones and megaphone. Ryder walked over to him.
"Hey, Chase. I thought you would've stayed asleep." He said.
"I was asleep but I was called by the Mayor to help out with the traffic." He said before he yawned.
"You know you could've told me or the other pups to help? They may not be as experienced as you but if they worked together-"
"Oh, it's okay. I didn't want to bother them. I told them to stay quiet so they didn't wake you up."
"Well thank you for that but you still could've asked me to do it. You're a growing pup with a lot of responsibilities so you have to get the right amount of rest."
"I know but I'm fine, really." Chase yawned again.
"Alright but I'll stay with you just in case you need some help."
"Thanks Ryder." Chase said as he swayed a bit. Ryder was about to say something before Chase used his megaphone to say, "alright people, just around the cones and you'll be out of this jam in no time!"
A couple hours later, 11:30am, the traffic was gone. Chase walked over to his truck. His swaying had gotten worse, he was sure the decent-sized scratch on his left paw was infected and bruises had started to form around where he landed after being thrown by one of the robbers. He knew he wouldn't be able to drive his truck so he made up an excuse to ride with Ryder instead.
"Hey, Ryder. There's uh...something wrong with my truck. Do you think I could ride with you back to the Lookout?" He asked.
"Yeah, sure. Did you want me to check it out?"
"No, no, it's okay. I'll check it when we get back."
"Alright." Ryder knew something was wrong with Chase. Chase would never keep a secret from Ryder, no matter what it was. But Ryder could see that his German Shepard pup was definitely not fine.
They made it back to the Lookout. Chase hopped off Ryder's bike and thanked him. Once his truck was back in its place, Chase 'checked' it before he head over to his pup house. He laid down and his eyes started to close. He was about to full asleep before "Chase!" was yelled from outside his pup house. His eyes snapped open once more. He lifted his head and slowly stood up. He looked outside and squinted his eyes at the sun. Marshall walked up to him.
"Oh, hey Marshall." Chase said.
"Hey Chase, do you wanna- woah. Are you okay?" He asked concerned. A frown on his face.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine, why?"
"You just look really tired. Do you want me to go get Ryder?"
"No! Uh, I mean...could you just come inside real quick." Chase asked nervously.
"Yeah, sure." Marshall said before he stepped inside Chase's pup house. "What's wrong?"
