Puppeteer (Bucky X Reader)

Part 4

(Warnings : Slight panic attack )

"Friday, tell the Manchurian Candidate to come to the living room." Tony commanded after hearing the news that Puppet had woken up after being in the safe room for 24 hours. "Right away sir." FRIDAY replied.

"Mr Barnes, Mr Stark requests you in the living room." FRIDAY informed the voice then disappeared like she had appeared. Bucky looked to Steve and they both got up. "What do you think it's about?" Steve asked. Bucky answered with a shrug and continued to walk. "Maybe Puppet." He said to his best friend after walking for one minute. You had slipped from Steve's mind all day till now if he would be honest.

"What's wrong Tony?" Bucky asked once he walked into the living room with Steve by his side. "It's Puppet, she's awake and we would like to question her." Tony said looking at the two super soldiers. The usually sarcastic man was acting as professional and serious as he could since this matter was of extreme importance. There was a HYDRA agent with an attack dog and the ability to make y/f/c glowing strings out of her finger tips for christ sakes.

Steve looked to Bucky who was a bit tense. "You don't have to be the one to do it." Steve said to his best friend. "No I'm going to do it.." Bucky said then walked out of the room. He made his way to the medical bay with Tony and Steve behind him. A team took Bucky into a different room as Steve and Tony walked into the surveillance room. Everyone was in the room watching the monitor eagerly wanting to know who Puppet actually was. After a few minutes they could see the door open and Bucky walk in.

You sat on your bed crisscrossed with your eyes closed and petting Moose. He perked up when the door opened. You could feel the dog tense up the jump off the bed. You slightly opened one eye to be greeted with the winter soldier looking at you. Your breathing hitched as both of your eyes shot open. Fear had shot through your body and you felt like throwing up. Moose stood a defensive position at the end of the bed. You backed up a little. "I'm sorry I couldn't kill him, I couldn't bring myself to do it!" You said with your breathing picking up along with your heart rate. They took me out of cryo to kill me! All of this was just to prepare me for death! You thought to yourself. "Soldier please, you don't have to kill me." You pleaded, face starting to flush as tears formed in your eyes. "What? No, no I'm not here to kill you. I just want to ask you a few questions." Bucky said and held out his hands to you. He had a confused yet concerned look on his face. Sadly, seeing you panicking made something click in his mind. He did know you or knew he had seen you. You looked at him and whipped your tears away. Studying him a bit more you knew he wasn't the soldier you where used to. New arm, relaxed clothes, hair in a man bun, and face holding a soft look. Yep, definitely not your soldier. "W-what questions?" You asked starting to calm yourself down. The Winter Soldier was the only person you would show emotions around even though he didn't seem to care or understand. "We just want to know things about you and Hydra. Before you ask, you are with the avengers. I know you don't know about them but they are good people. They want to help you and your dog, we want to help." He said maintaining eye contact with you. You nodded then looked down, "I'll answer your questions I just need to know if he is dead." You said still looking into your lap. "Who?" Bucky asked crossing his arms. "Zola." You said and played with your hands. "No, he died in 72." Bucky answered you and watched as you let out a sigh of relief. With Zola gone you technically where in no danger at all. "It's 2017 by the way." He said looking at you. "Woah..." You said softly like a toddler that was amazed by Christmas lights. Bucky smiled softly then went back to a straight face to start asking you questions. After many questions being asked and hours going by; he was on the last question Furry prepared for him to ask her. "Finally, what do your powers consist of?" Bucky asked sitting on the floor with you also sitting on the floor, back against the bed. "Well, I have these glowing strings, I can levitate, I can control people as long as I can see their eyes, I can move things with my mind, and I have slightly enchanted strength and speed etc." You said giving an example of your stings, levitation, and telekinesis. "Did they give you the super soldier serum?" Bucky asked tilting his head like a confused puppy. He was also concerned but didn't want to show it, that serum was a blessing and a curse. "Ugh, you said the other one was the last!" You groaned and said playfully yet seriously as you purposely let your upper body fall to the floor. "Sorry, I just would like to know." He said with the corner of his mouth threatening a smile because of your playfulness. "No, they just put something in me, you where there." You said looking to him. He nodded then looked down. "I'll go now, thanks for the information." He said and got up. "You're welcome soldier." You said getting up also. "Bucky." He said to you then went to leave. "Y/n and Moose." You said before he left the room. Looking back to you he gave a simple smile and nod. A small smile made its way to your lips as you sat on the bed watching him leave. Petting Moose you sighed laying down. "Yes!" You said happily and let out a few squeals now that you knew HYDRA had no way of hurting you, or so you hoped.

It had been an hour since Bucky had come in to question you. You just went by your day like it was normal. However, the avengers where trying to find out how much more information they could get on you. "Y/n, Y/n, Y/n." Tony repeatedly said and thought. "Why does that sound familiar?" He asked no one then thought. "Tony now isn't time to think of a fling you had." Natasha said looking up from the files she was looking through. "No, no! I don't remember the name from a fling. Considering I remember it it's not from a fling." He said then got up to pace. "Are you sure?" Sam asked before Bucky butted in. "Guys, could we not talk about Tony's flings?" He asked looking around the room. The thought of Y/n doing something like that made him jealous and just outright didn't stick well with him. Bucky didn't know why he felt like that but he did and just decided to ignore it. "Friday, search through Howard's things for a Y/n." Tony said then sat down still trying to think. Everyone went back to what they where doing till FRIDAY's voice came back five minutes later. "Sir, I found a Y/n Hughes but only a mention and photograph." She said then the voice disappeared. "YES!" Tony shouted and did a mini victory celebration. "Y/n Hughes! Jarvis would sometimes talk about her. She was captured by Hydra as a baby. Her dad and mine where close I think. Mom died in the hospital giving birth. They lived in Brooklyn and she was born there too, 1945 on December 23rd." Tony said then looked around the room as everyone looked at him in shock. "How-" Natasha started but was cut off by Tony. "Genius, remember." He said then left the room.

Bucky sat in an arm chair thinking. He tried his hardest to remember everything he knew about Y/n and Moose. Only a few things would come back to him, training, holding her down during tests, walking Moose, and that was it. He sighed angrily and walked out of the room not paying attention to anyone. Bucky went straight to the surveillance room and watched Y/n as she played with Moose. Her hair annoyed her as it kept getting in her way, it usually was never that long. He walked out and went to the room she was being held in. Opening the door he put his hands up as Moose started to growl at him. "Hey, it's me. I just want to talk." He said and Moose backed off. "Oh, hi." You said looking at the soldier who was trying his best to not look intimidating. "I just wanted to know how you where doing." He said and sat down on the floor in front of you. "Pretty good for being stuck in here." You said and giggled softly. Your giggle threw him off, it was adorable. "Yeah, sorry about that." He said and watched as you moved hair out of your face. "I see your hair is annoying you." He said looking at its length. "Yeah its a pain. When I was out of cryo I thought to change it up but it's annoying." You said and scratched the back of your neck. "I can get Tony to get someone to cut it if you want." He offered. "Please!" You said and laid back with a satisfied groan. "That would be awesome." You said and and looked at Moose who was in a playful position. Bucky lightly smiled at your actions. "Why aren't you intimidated by me?" He asked kind of bluntly. You sat up and looked at him with a sigh while kind of admiring him. "Welllllll you're not the soldier I'm used to, you seem calmer and like you know what's happening up top. Also, I'm not in Hydra's care so there's no reason I should be scared of you; you're not gonna hurt me. You even said you wouldn't." You said and shrugged. He nodded and felt better about himself. If Y/n wasn't intimidated or scared of him that means he did in fact change from The Winter Soldier. "Can I get a radio?" You asked the soldier with your best puppy dog eyes.
