It’s been a day since Ukita’s death and the Second Kira’s tapes were shown. Light couldn’t stop thinking about Freya. It was the first time that he saw Freya take a soul from a human. She handled it with care and protected it in her delicate hands. This feeling he had toward her was odd to him. Sure he dated a lot of girls during high school and college, but he only used them for not being bored before he got the Death Note. And then after he got the notebook, from then on he only dated girls to make it look like he was a normal guy. But Freya was a different story.

“Everyone, I know it was tragic from what happened yesterday with the Second Kira incident and losing a member of the team, but we must work harder to stop this.” L stated while he sat in his pose on the chair. L dunked a sweet into his sweet drink then ate it.

“Ryuzaki’s right,” Mr. Yagami said with a frown, “We need to know what he plans to do next.” Everyone in the team nodded and Matsuda looked down with a thoughtful look. “Yes, but first there’s something I need to share with you all” L said making everyone look curiously at him. “What is it?” Matsuda asked nervously.

“Ever since the night of the incident, I’ve been reviewing reports from the police of the victims killed by Kira. I noticed something odd. Something was left with the corpses.” L said studying everyone. They looked confused, curious. L looked to Light and he was the same as the rest.

L reached down and pulled from behind his chair a plastic bag with a sticky tag on it that said, Evidence: 1- Hirokazu Ukita. Everyone looked what was inside and it was a black feather. “A feather?” Mogi asked. “Yes. At first I thought it was nothing- thinking it came from a bird. But I thought deeply and came with a hunch.” L said. “And what’s that?” Aizawa asked.

“Remember the original Kira sent us those notes? About gods of death love apples? Well, there was another note that mentioned something else-way off topic.” L stated. “Oh yeah. Something like…an angel?” Mr. Yagami said. “A Fallen Angel to be exact. Kira mentioned he met her. I believe this ‘Fallen Angel’ is the one leaving these feathers on the victims as she takes their souls.” L said placing the bag on the table.

“This is ridiculous! Shinigami, Fallen Angels, even normal angels don’t exist! They’re just imaginary figures made by people!” Aizawa said and L looked at him unphased. “You don’t know that, Mr. Aizawa. We don’t know what this world hold’s in store for mankind. We have yet to see with our own eyes.”

Aizawa said nothing else. “I watched the tape of Ukita’s death very carefully to see anything that left the feather on his body. But I saw nothing. I’m guessing that whoever has these ‘shingami eyes’ can see this fallen angel. And if I’m correct, there must be something that you can be able to see this being.” L said staring hard down at the piles of papers with his thumb to his lips.

Light realized that L was right as he remembered the black rose he touched and saw Freya. As long as no one found the black rose, no one could see her… unless she actually showed a black rose for them to touch.

A few days went by and Light returned home as it just got dark. Someone had visited his home and here he was standing in front a goth girl claiming she’s the second kira in his room. Light admitted to her that he was angry for what she had done, but the girl, Misa assured him everything would be fine. Light asked why she was so desperate to meet him and she told him her sad story of what happened to her family. The same one she told Freya.

Light responded by hugging her leaving her surprised. She had given half of her life span and killed just for him. Light smirked evilly as he hugged her. Now he could use her as a weapon since she vowed to help him. After they separated, Light looked shocked to see Freya at his window. Misa and the two shinigamis glance at her still form. Misa grew excited and leaped up happily. “Freya! You came back!” Misa squealed.

Freya stared at Light. “I found him, Freya! I found the savior that helped me.” Misa said to her. Freya glanced at her. “You didn’t listen to my warning, Misa…” Freya said. Misa frowned, “But…” “She warned you too huh?” Light said unemotionally. Misa glanced at him worriedly as Rem and Ryuk stared at Freya. “I shall warn the both of you again, especially you, Light. If you continue to kill using the Death Note, the cost will end badly… even your lives are at stake…” Freya said without emotion.

Light glared. “I’ve had it.” Misa and the shinigamis looked at him as he immediately grabbed his Death Note, opened it to a clean page, grabbed a pen, and hovered it above the paper. Misa looked horrified. “You know for a Fallen Angel you did interest me and I thought you wouldn’t be a threat to me. But I was wrong. Your warnings are irritating me and you stand in my way in victory.” Light began to write down Freya into the notebook in fast, hard handwriting.

“Light! Please don’t kill her!” Misa begged, but Light had finished writing her name down. Light smirked at Freya while Misa looked at her scared and cupping her hands over her mouth. “Bet you wish you didn’t interfere with my goal, Freya. I feel no pity for you, even for a sad, lonely creature such as yourself.” Light said as he watched his wrist watch tick away.

35… 36… 37… 38… 39… 40…

Light glanced up at Freya. Misa looked frightened at Freya. Both Shinigamis watched. Ryuk then chuckled. Light looked surprised and confused as Freya stood there motionless, not worried at all. Misa lightly sighed in relief. “What?” Light said breathlessly. “Why didn’t you die?!” Light demanded. Freya was silent and stared at him. “You are foolish, Light Yagami” Rem said. Light glared at her. “Like Shinigami, you can’t kill Fallen Angels.”

Light looked back at Freya. “That’s correct. Although, you made a mistake of not knowing my last name.” Freya said. “I didn’t know your kind had last names…” Light said. “We do. Whether you wrote down my full name or not, you wouldn’t be able to kill me. For I am already dead…” Freya said surprising Misa and Light. “You’re dead? How did you die?” Light asked interested.

“… That’s none of your concern considering that you tried to kill me. I find that quite rude.” Freya said. Light only stared intently at her. “I shall leave now. Remember my warning.” Freya lastly said as she flew off quickly. It was silent in the room and Misa glanced at Light. He only stared off where Freya flew off…

After telling Misa that they would be working together and meeting up with each other, Misa left his house and walked home. Light watched her leave then looked into the night sky outside his window. “Hey, Light, is Freya causing you trouble?” Ryuk chuckled. Light said nothing. “No, she’s just going to be a bit irritating like a mosquito.” Light said. Ryuk stared at him as Light reached into his desk drawer.

Light pulled out the black rose. Without hesitating, Light closed his hand and squished the poor flower till the petals fell off and hit floor. Light reopened his hand and looked down at the damaged rose. Light let the rest of the flower fall. “She can’t stop me… There’s no way I’ll lose.  Or even die for that matter…”
