3rd POV
Mao Mao, Oam, Badgerclops, and Adorabat walk through the mist, the torch being their
only light.
“Why is the mist so thick? Last time it was thin.”
“This mist isn’t like real mist Mao Mao. It builds up. The more in an area, the stronger the
effect.” Oam sighed. Suddenly, the four heard a scream.
“That’s the king!” Mao Mao Badgerclops, and Adorabat said in unison. The three ran
towards the sound, Mao Mao quickly grabbing Oam’s hand to pull him. Skidding to a halt, the
four found the king unconscious. Quickly picking him up, the four ran into a nearby house. Mao
Mao placed the torch down in a cup, making sure it wouldn’t burn out.
“King Snugglemagne, wake up!” Mao Mao shook the king, hoping to wake him up from
his nightmare.
“Ugh, what happe-AH!” The king quickly jumped towards Badgerclops the moment he
saw Oam. “He’s one of the shapeshifters.” Snugglemagne held onto Badgerclops’ arm.
“Oh…” Oam looked down at the floor, “So… I’m kinda helping Mao Mao deal with the
mist.” Snugglemagne glared at Oam with hateful burning eyes that resembled the embers he
was forced to watch as they burned down his home.
“King, Oam just wants to help us.” Snugglemagne’s grip tightened on Badgerclops’ arm.
“I don’t CARE!” The king furiously barked as he stood up, quickly pushing Oam away
from him. “You set my home on fire, you trapped me there. I COULD’VE DIED!”
“I’M SORRY!” Oam stood up, tears starting to form in his eyes. “I know that’s not
enough. That won’t change the fact that I had hurt you, that I could’ve killed you. I JUST
WANTED TO DIE!” Oam quickly covered his mouth. “Hehe… I still want to.”
“... Oam, what do you mean?”
“... Since we’re connected by my mirror, if you die… so do I. It’s the only way I can die,”
Oam said in a shaky, tremulous tone, holding back tears. Everyone fell silent. Suddenly,
Snugglemagne hugged Oam. “Wait, why are you-”
“I’m sorry.” Snugglemagne pulled Oam in closer.
“No, you shouldn’t be saying sorry. I’m the one that hurt you. I’m the one that risked your
lives,” Oam said as he tried to push out of the king’s embrace, failing to do so.
“You have the mindset I used to have, so of course you’d make some awful decisions.”
Mao Mao stood up and placed a hand on Oam’s shoulder.
“That doesn’t-”
“Oam.”
“I shouldn’t-”
“It’s okay.”
“NO IT’S NOT! YOU SHOULDN”T BE FORGIVING ME!” Oam started to cry, cold tears
flooding down his face. He trembled and sobbed, releasing a cascade of emotions. Quickly
turning to the door, Oam ran out of the house into the mist.
“Oam!” Mao Mao quickly grabbed the torch, running out of the house with the others
behind him. “Oh no.”
