Chapter 32

Regina and I stand in the doorway and watch Cora get into her car and drive off. I close and lock the door and turn to walk away. Regina grabs hold of my hand. "Emma I'm so sorry. My mother had no right to talk to you like that".  "It's fine Regina. Everyone is entitled to their opinion".  "Well she's wrong my love. Everything she said was so wrong. I know that and so does my father. Once he finds out what my mother said and what she's done he will fix everything".  She leans in to kiss me. "It's fine Regina. It's not like I've never heard anyone speak to me like that". I walk away and go into the kitchen. I get a beer out of the fridge and sit down at the island and take drink of it. "What does bother me a little is that Cora had me fooled. I actually thought she, I don't know liked me or maybe even accepted me. But now I see that it was all an act. She was just tolerating me for your sake".  She sits next to me and holds my hand. "Emma I really am sorry about my mother. I'm going to fix this". She speaks in a tender voice and kisses me. "I'm going to get dressed and go talk to my father". She gets up and walks out of the kitchen and heads upstairs. I let out a deep breath and run upstairs after her. I also start getting dressed. "What are you doing dear?"  "I'm going with you. I'm not letting you face your parents alone".  "You don't have to Emma. I can handle this".  "I'm going Regina. That's it".  There was a little edge to my words. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean for those words to come out that harsh. I just really want to be with you when you go over there".  "I understand Emma. It's ok".  We finish getting dressed and drive over to her parents house. I go to knock on the door but Regina just walks right in. "Daddy. Are you home?"  She goes right to his office and he's sitting there behind his desk reading the newspaper. "Daddy we need to talk. Where is mother?"  She says as she barges right into Henry's office. "Regina dear. What's wrong?"   "It's mother. She's done something and we all need to talk. Where is she?"   "Calm down sweetheart". He says coming out from behind his desk over to Regina. I'm just standing off to the side for now. "Your mother isn't home yet. What has she done?"  Regina looks over at me and I just shrug. She holds her hand out to me so I walk over and hold it. "She came over to our home tonight and tried to belittle Emma. She said very cruel things to her and about our relationship. Daddy why would she do something like that? She always seemed to like Emma. Was she really just pretending?"  "Please let's all sit down and talk". Henry motions to the seating area and the 3 of us sit down. "Regina my dear your mother is a complicated woman. She has very high expectations in every aspect of her life. Emma I'm sorry for the way my wife spoke to you. I don't know what she said but I have no doubt that it was totally uncalled for and I definitely will be talking to her".  I just nod to him. "Daddy she said other things. She says she planning on stopping everything from going through once Emma and I are married. If that's true then I need to know now so Emma and I can make proper arrangements to sell the house and move. With our jobs we can't keep our house". She beginning to get emotional and I see unshed tears in her eyes. "Henry. Look I already told you I don't want your money. I just want to be with Regina. So I don't care if I get cut off but I think Regina is entitled to her birthright".  All of a sudden we hear heels clicking on the hardwood floors leading into Henry's office. "I should have known you'd make a plea to still get your money. You just couldn't wait to rat me out to Regina's father could you?"  "Mother I wanted to come here. Emma is just here to support me".  "Sure she is. She has millions of reasons to want to support you now".  "That's enough Cora. Have a seat".  "I don't think so Henry. Not with this, person try to steal our money".  Henry stands. "Sit down Cora. That's not a request". Henry says in the firmest voice I've ever heard him use and Cora sits right down. "Cora I'm very disappointed in you. Not only have you scared our daughter and broken her heart you also treated this young woman terribly. How dare you say anything at all to her. Maybe you need reminding how you had nothing when I met you and I always treated you with respect. After all these years I have spoiled you and our daughter because I love you. Maybe you need to remember where you came from Cora. Maybe I should cut you off and see what you would do for a while".  Cora's eyes went wide. "Henry you wouldn't".  "That's what you just threatened our daughter with. Now she and Emma have to sell their home and move to an apartment somewhere on the other side of town because you said that you put a stop to everything". Regina and I are just sitting there watching all this go on. We look at each other and we both look surprised. "Cora. Perhaps you should go pack a few things and stay at Granny's B&B for a while".  "Henry you can't be serious".  "Do I look like I'm joking Cora?  You need to think about what you've done to our daughter and to Emma".  Cora nods and stands. She looks at us and leaves the room. "Daddy what was all that?"  "Your mother needs a taste of her own medicine and what a better way than to threaten to take away money and send her over to the B&B? Please excuse me while I make a few calls". Regina and I nod and we just sit back still I awe of the situation going on right now. Henry sits behind his desk and makes a call. "Shut off all Cora's access to everything. Yes. I'll let you know when to change it back. Ok. Thank you". He ends that call and makes another. "Hello Eugenia it's Henry Mills sorry to bother you. Cora is on her way over there to get a room. I'll take care of the charges of course. I just would like for you to give her a room when her credit card gets declined. Yes. I'm teaching her a life lesson. I will pay for everything when she checks out. Wonderful. Thank you very much. Have a wonderful evening".   "Daddy. What is this?"  We hear heals clicking again and Henry holds up a finger signaling to us to wait. Cora walks in the office. "Ok I guess I'll go now".  "I think that's for the best Cora. We can talk soon. Goodbye".  Henry looks away from her and picks a pen and starts to write something. Cora looks at us and leaves. We hear the front door open and close.  "Daddy what's happening? You've never sent mother away like that".  He gets up from behind his desk and sits across from us again. "After you both left earlier I received a call from my lawyer saying that Cora wanted to put a stop to everything, including your trust fund Regina. What she didn't know was that she has no authority to do any of that. Sure Cora has access to money but only within my discretion. Her name isn't on anything of power and that will never change. I do love your mother very much Regina but I also know how your mother can be when money is on the line. So don't worry about anything my loves. You don't have to move or sell your home. You can have any kind of wedding you want and if Cora can't respect that then she doesn't have to be invited".   "Sir I don't know what to say".  "You don't need to say anything dear. You are absolutely nothing like my wife. She would have jumped at the chance to receive what I'm giving you and probably not even say thank you. You took time to think about what was best and you spoke to Regina about all of it. I respect you Emma and I can't wait till you are my daughter-in-law". I can't help the tears that fall. I stand and so does Henry. I leap into his arms and he holds me just like a father would. Regina joins us in the hug. "Ok ok. That's enough mushy stuff. I haven't eaten yet. How about I treat you both to dinner?"  Regina and I both smile and nod. He steps away and makes a few calls and we all head outside to Henry's car. The driver opens the door for us and takes us to Storybrooke's finest Italian restaurant.  We eat, talk and even laugh a lot. After dinner we go back to Henry's house and he walks us to our car and hugs us both goodbye. Regina and I drive home and get ready for bed. Is been a very long emotional day and we both have to work in the morning. Once we get in bed we snuggle together and end up having a wonderful sleep.
