Taking a deep breath as your gaze was drawn to the scenery. The gorgeous morning was just breaking over the next ridge over from your vantage point, and you could feel the wind come up against you and blow behind you. You sighed peacefully and smiled. Wind whistles through the mountains, echoing in the valley. You sat up, leaning back against the stony earth beneath you. You looked down at yourself, dressed nearly head to toe in camouflage and thick but rather light attire for this hobby. You reached for your binoculars, bringing them up to your eyes as you looked over the valley down below where a small stream ran. You'd seen a few deer earlier.
But you never lost up hope. You were an excellent hunter, with frighteningly good skills at tracking and locating an animal even when it was nearly entirely concealed. You were a sharpshooter even from the mountains. Though you preferred to maintain your rifle and scope skills fresh and polished, with greater precision than any other. You turned and scrounged up a breakfast you had made the night before the hunt, when the promise you had made hit you.
You nearly smiled regretfully as you reached for your phone, unlocked the screen, and stood up. Overlooking the valley in all its splendour. The light shone down magnificent colours through the tree shadows, and the sky was a beautiful pink, orange, and red. Rafael, you wouldn't be able to stand it if you hadn't remembered to take photos of your trips. You knew the kids loved your activities and didn't spend much time in the outdoors themselves. You were, in a way, their supplier of free, lovely scenery. You raised your hand and focused, snapping a couple shots of the scenery from the tall ridge you'd climbed. That is, until a light brown speck grabbed the corner of your eye.
Your gaze was drawn downward to a stunning doe resting in the ridge below you. In a gully, none or less.
"Oh, they'll love this."
It was remarkable how all the deer herds seemed to be dispersed this year, even 'big' herds were only a few does together, with a buck or yearling in the mix. You tilted your head, watching the female down in the gully for a little while longer.
You sat back down, allowing yourself to take out the few snacks you'd prepared, which included a couple sandwiches and a water bottle or two. In addition to the standard protein bar. You ate one of the snacks eagerly, feeling much better as your stomach settled. You put the materials away after rehydrating yourself. You opened your eyes and blinked a few times, rubbing any sleep from your slightly sleepy eyes. You inhaled before resuming your scan of the valley, which seemed peaceful save for the wind. Except for the doe below you, you hadn't seen any movement in the last few hours. You desired the herds as well as the large bucks that patrolled them. Yet it was only the beginning of the day, and you knew the hours ahead of you would be full of life and even memory-making moments. It was only a matter of time before it happened, you could feel it.

It had been hours since you had last seen a deer. It was almost lunchtime when you relocated yourself another ridge over in the hopes of seeing something. With binoculars in hand, you scouted the woods and broad meadows of the fields below. The autumn of red and orange had seized the countryside, painting everything in stunning hues. You were about to get up when you noticed a white spot.
