Storyline:

Qing Feng and her two sisters, famous for their beauty and talents, were sent into Qiong Yue as a peace tribute. To forced them, the local ruler killed their parents. Even after they ruined their faces to make them inappropriate as tribute, they still have to go. On the way to Qiong Yue, Qing Feng suggested to stay at their homeland with their parents even as corpse so they hanged themselves together. Unfortunately they didn't die. The soldiers who guard them decide to separate the three sisters to avoid future problem.

There's a mistake (I don't know why) so QF was sent into the palace instead of Qing Ling, the one who The Emperor Yan Hong Tian specially requested. QF thought that maybe because her sisters died so they sent her to Palace to replace her. She decided to just die together with The Emperor.

On the wedding night, she prepare a knife to kill YHT. Of course she was failed. YHT just find her stubbornness and braveness interesting.

-----

This is Book 3 of this universe.  When I read novelupdates page I was confused which one to read first from this universe so I pick one randomly. But it obviously stated as 3rd book on NU. How did I even missed it. OTL

The first book is about Qing Ling (the eldest), 2nd book about Qing Mo (the youngest sister). This book is about Qing Feng. It's story from Qing Feng's side so there are events that only mentioned without explanation or an event that we only get the beginning explanation and the end result, the details of what happened in QL and QM life is told on their own book. So I suggest you read it from the first book. I guess reading Third Book first is not too spoiler-y but I have to read the other two books to know. All 3 books already translated. First book has 112 chapters and Second book only 43 chapters. There's 4th book about their children which translation still ongoing.

What I like:

Qing Feng is smart, stubborn and not afraid of anything except once on her real wedding night (glad it's not R-18), that time she realize that she's actually really scared. She really love her family and everything she do in the Palace is to make sure her sisters' life won't be affected. She will bear the hardship as long as her sisters have better life. As someone who went through tragedy, her emotions is strung high. But I still regard her as strong person. She only completely broke down once later on when another tragedy happened so close to her. I cried a lot when I read that part.

The progression of their relationship is quite rationale.  He's an Emperor who can not get a break from problems in both the government and in his own family (and harem) so he doesn't easily trust others. QF is initially full of hate toward YHT so it's normal for her to not realize her change of feeling.

There are many wives in The Palace but you only need to remember 3 important people: The Empress, Chen Zhen (YHT's favorite Concubine), Somebody-I-Forgot-The-Name (YHT's former favorite concubine).

Conflicts and secrets in The Palace is complicated enough to make it interesting. I guess you really have to start reading from The 1st Book to fully understand the politics and the cases related to it.

What I don't like:

It's palace story so there are soooooo many people. Sometimes I forgot who's who.

There's no significant weakness that stand out for me. This novel didn't make me said "ugh I hate this part".

The novel summary translation:

Two similar unbending persons with no love and feelings between them, are fated to be continuously intertwine an entire lifetime. He thought that he wanted her total submission but when she was kneeling at his feet, why did he felt meaningless?

She thought that all she wanted was his life, but when he spurted blood while he was lying in her arms and asked "Why did you return?" Why did her tears keep falling?
