Kerrick heaved loud sigh, feeling annoyed by the lack of information he was getting out of you.

"Please just tell me, it's not like I'm going to do anything with the information," he begged, hating that he was left out. You sighed, leaning back on your bed while your friend sat on the end of it.

"It's nothing personal, Kerry," you said, trying to lighten the mood by using his nickname. You were told that he was not allowed in the room where the rest of the detectives worked for the time being, this was why he continued to ask for the reason why. He lay down, dark eyes moving to look at you sitting propped against the headboard of the bed. He remained silent before giving into his curiosity barely a minute later.

"So... is something interesting happening up there?" he asked, seeing if there was anything he could get out of you. You were told not to tell anyone what had happened but no one told you not to say there was something going on. Nodding your head, Kerrick let out a long relieved breath.

"I'm guessing it's some detective stuff, but I understand that you can't tell me," he said, sending you a small smile. You were happy to send one in response, feeling genuine happiness that you got this time to spend with him.

"I'm just glad you're happy," he said quietly, closing his eyes. He flinched gently when he felt you touch his hair, pulling it out of its usual pony tail to play with.

"What makes you think I'm happy?" you questioned, running your fingers through his silky, black hair. He hummed as his thought, keeping his eyes closed as he rested.

"Well, you finally have other people around who are kind and willing to get to know you. I know there's that one guy who's really hard on you, but other than that you look happier. You're eating more, sleeping better... You've improved a lot since you arrived in Japan." You hummed as you continued playing with his hair.

"I think so too," you whispered, "I'm so close." Kerrick sighed once again, opening his eyes to look up at you.

"Come on, (Y/n). Now is not the time to be thinking about that Akio guy, there are better things here than some guy that you barely know." It was obvious that Kerrick was displeased in your wish to find someone that you hadn't seen in years, especially since you spent every free second you had thinking about him.

Kerrick held your gaze, watching as your face showed a few different expressions. First there was annoyance, you hating that he was scolding you for something you cared so much for. Then it changed to embarrassment, you hating the confrontation. Finally, your expression went neutral, Kerrick no longer being able to read you.

"You like that L guy, right? Maybe you could focus more energy on solving the Kira case with him?" he suggested. You looked down at your lap, beginning to play with the hem of your hoodie.

"Maybe."

Kerrick noticed your strange reaction and sat up, giving your head a pat. It was comforting, especially since it was from him.

"Just give this Akio hunt a little break, there'll be plenty of time to do that once you've solved this case." You bit your lip, feeling unsure. To give reassurance, Kerrick placed his hand on your shoulder and gave it small squeeze.

"I know how much Akio means to you and I'm not telling you to give up. You have something good here, people want to be around you, they like you. Embrace it while you have it and put your search on hold, even if it's for a few days..." You could see how much care Kerrick's words held, you not being able to say anything that opposed him in this moment. Noticing your look of defeat, he gave you hug.
