I was asleep when-
"CA-CAWWWW!" Matcha screeched. Slowly opening my eyes, I saw him sitting next to me, looking at me cutely. It still looked dark out, so I pulled him closer and went back to sleep. Burying my face into his soft feathers, I soon went to sleep, when I felt him trying to wiggle out of my hold. His screeching had woken up the other two who smacked him with their tails. Yawning, I finally got up, seeing the three arguing at each other in animal language.
Checking the time, it was right around 6 O'clock... great. The school cafeteria wasn't open until 7, so I guess I should check out the library. Hearing me get up from my bed, the three stopped arguing, looking at me cutely, waiting to be petted. If I had three hands, this task would've been so much easier, but I didn't. All three wanted to be pet first, after they evolved, they became more clingy to me. Smiling down at them, I petted Matcha first, who was crying from the other two's bullying. "Come now, guys, there's no need to fight." I said. Yuki and Ichigo were both jealous that Matcha was being petted first, hearing his purring as he rubbed against my hands. Soon after I petted the both of them the equal time, both feeling at ease from my head pats. Why are these three so cute?
"Get on your stick everyone." I said, the three hopping onto their stick, they became the familiar "Hanami", even though they were three separate beings. They didn't eat much, and when they did, it was usually corn syrup, honey, or maple syrup. Anything that was sticky, sweet, and in liquid form, they consumed it. Thank goodness the library opened early. I honestly wouldn't know what to do if it wasn't.
Typically, most students woke around 7 0'clock, so seeing some in the library was rare. After the school approved of my tutoring sessions, I technically no longer had any classes to attend. In most cases, students would envy my freedom, without having to stick to the school's bell schedule, I could be as lazy as I wanted. But because I had no schedule, I worked even harder than anyone else.
Practicing new spells each day, building up my agility and helping others, I didn't want to fall behind. While I could easily master any element-I have the time after all-I specifically focused on the earth element. There were two branches in this element, Healer and Protector. It suited well for me, as Hanami was an earth element. In these two branches, there were different spells to learn. From things like 'Emerald Shield' to 'Pulse', there were hundreds to learn. So while people were in class, I took to practicing a few spells.
During this time, the librarian-who was mean to practically every student who came into the library-became practically a friend to me, after visiting the library constantly, I would notice how she needed help restoring books. While the earth element had countless spells on regenerating wounds, none of the books showed any signs of a spell that could heal paper "wounds". I'm not talking about paper cuts, those can be healed with-Wait, cuts, that's it!
"Hanami, gather all the books on minor healing spells and vocabulary." I stated, the three hopped off of their stick. Bouncing around the library, balancing books on their heads. Seeing Matcha trying to flap his tiny wings was adorable, but he only managed to get a centimeter off the ground before plopping right back down.
Yuki gathered the minor wound books, even helping Matcha off the ground, the two stacked up on top of each other, trying to reach the second shelf. Mind you, they're about 8 inches in height, so not very tall, even stacked on top of each other. Without their stick, the two toppled over one another, rolling off each other like two balls. I remember dangos being sticky, so I wonder how the two didn't stick to each other. But I suppose it's just a special effect of their stick, which I carry around for them. As far as I know, their stick had no magical properties, but who knows?
Ichigo had better results, inheriting cat-like reflexes, he could reach the second shelf by hopping. Seeing me watching him made him feel proud, possibly sneering at the other two for stealing my attention. When did these three become so competitive?
20 minutes later, a few books were gathered. It wasn't much, but I was still happy with what the three collected. Giving them more head pats, I scanned through the books, bookmarking spells that mentioned about cuts, tears, rips, things that could be related to fixing books. Narrowing down my list of spells, I used a few vocabulary books to refer to. Handing Hanami-Ichigo, Yuki, and Matcha, three pieces of random paper. I told them to destroy it. With the paper in shreds, I cast a few spell combinations that I tweaked to see if it could react to an inanimate object. Obviously not that easy to create a spell to fix broken objects, which seemed surprising that no one made before. Changing parts of the incantation from paper to parchment, binding to leather, slowly, hours going by. I created a beta spell that I named-"Repair", a bit straightforward, but it does the trick.
After practicing the spell several times, the shreds of paper before me repaired, merging into one another, reforming into the original 3 sheets. Once I got the hang of the spell, all it took was to say the name, and the spell activated. Getting the librarian's approval-who had been watching my progress- I tested on a manuscript that was sort of new. It had a slit rip in the corner, from mishandling. Holding my hand over it, I cast my spell, "Repair". The rip fused into the paper, fixing the manuscript. Amaze with the result, she had me test on an older and much more valuable piece. Doing the same with this one, I saw that not only did the paper or binding become fixed. Even the inking of the letters became darker, that it made the old text look brand new!
I was so happy I had accomplished making a spell that worked; It took so many trials to find the correct incantation to work. Just a simple change in wording, could make the spell ineffective, so to have made something so useful was-It made me so happy. When I thanked the three for their help, they all smiled, as if shimmering stars surrounded them. I couldn't fathom how the librarian was handling this, but after witnessing my spell, she asked what the incantation was. Teaching it to her, we both went to fix hundreds of old texts that were once thought impossible to fix. But unknowingly, my spell could fix things that weren't even books. While the librarian went off to fix her old texts, I continued to test the limits of the spell. It had, so many uses I realized it might be best to keep it a secret. At least, become a secret trump card of mine. Telling this to the librarian, she smiled, thanking me for the help I was to her.
It had taken all school day to create the spell, forgetting to eat breakfast, Hanami, and I were all hungry. For good reason, spell casting took up a lot of energy, and creating a spell took even more energy. After raiding the cafeteria of its food, I filled my bottomless pit of a stomach, still consuming food while the other students began pouring into the cafeteria. Tired from their lessons, or chatting about their next one. Spotting Damon at the special, A rank table, I noticed that every girl was staring at him. The A ranks sat on an elevated platform, with elegant tables with teleportation crystals fused into the wood used for them. Because of this, they could summon any dish they desired right to their platter without the need to get up and order it directly.
I found that to be such a useless feature, but it was the school's decision to have them made. As like my room, there was not really a place for me to sit, but most people from other ranks, especially in B rank wanted me to sit with them. They would ask me questions about my magic and how I evolved an F rank. Now that I had chosen to specialize in Earth magic, my image of "protecting" the weak only grew stronger in everyone's minds. Although it irritated Damon even more, reading his thoughts, I snickered at what he was thinking about me.
Considering our past together, I never realized how being immune to his charm would frustrate him beyond belief. Perfect. Teehee~
