An alarm was going off somewhere nearby

An alarm was going off somewhere nearby. My mind was too foggy to make out the obnoxiously high pitched lyrics. They were jumbled and disfigured.

Dim light shined through the slits between the curtens. It wasn't much light, but when I combined it with my raging headache, it became blinding.

I threw my arm over my eyes and pinched them closed. Whatever I was laying on wasn't comfortable enough to be a bed, but I didn't have it in me to move. Comfortable or not, there was a shit ton of elephants stomping around in my head like they'd been training for the grand march.

Fuck.

"Someone shut that goddamn alarm off."

The voice didn't register as familiar at first. Then it hit me. I cracked one eye open just in time to see Toni disentangling herself from Kaylee and myself. Her legs were twisted in mine and her arms were wrapped around Kaylee's waist.

"I swear on my life, heads will roll if--"

"Okay, okay," Toni said sliding off of the couch. "I'm turning it off."

"About fucking time."

"Speaking of time, I'm going to be late for work." Toni said. She chewed on her bottom lip, staring sadly at her phone.

"Don't go then." I suggested quietly. I sure as hell didn't want to get up and face reality. Falling back asleep sounded like heaven right now. "We can sleep in, watch some movies and order food."

Kaylee peeked one eye open to look at me. "I like his idea."

"I can't," she said starting towards the hallway. "It's the first day in the new building. Daddy's expecting me to be there. I have to set a good example."

"And I have to get the fuck back to sleep." Kaylee said darkly. She grabbed one of the couch cushions and held it over her face to block out the light.

I second the motion.

Toni was already in her bedroom before I could make a more compelling arguement. I could hear the water running and the faint sound of shitty pop music playing.

Screw it. I'm going back to sleep.

I was just starting to drift back into sweet unconsciousness when someone shook my shoulder. Fuck. Motherfucking hell. There was no relief from this hangover.

"Sawyer."

"What?" I grumbled.

"I want to talk to you about letting Kaylee stay here until she can afford her own place." Toni said. She was leaning over me, her attire consisting of a dark pink dress falling to her knees and banish five inch stilettos.

"Mhm."

"I know it's a lot to ask and it'll be more difficult hiding our secret.." she paused. "But she's my best friend. She would do it for me if the roles were reversed."
