Pt 2 to And They Were Teammates

I opened my eyes to my alarm echoing through my room. I turned it off and took a quick shower before getting changed into my McLaren uniform. I put my hair into a messy bun and brushed my teeth A small knock came from the door, I quickly slid on my trainers and grabbed my key before opening the door. Lando was stood, his hair was messy and his eyes were half open but he was still smiling.

"Sorry I'm late, I overslept." I glanced down at my phone to see that it was 8:03. I smiled and looked back up at him, he ran his hand through his hair trying to neaten it as best as he could. "Did you want to get some breakfast before we get to the track?" I nodded and closed my room door.

Lando drove us, insisting as I had driven yesterday. We bopped along to music as we drove, Lando was singing quietly to himself, making me chuckle. We pulled up to a drive thru, Lando ordering the two of us some breakfast wraps and a coffee for me. I thanked him as I started to devour the wrap, Lando looking over at me and chuckling, bacon hanging out of my mouth as I was determined to ram as much in my mouth before we arrived at the paddock. As we drove I scrolled through my Instagram, lots of fans were loosing their shit at the fact that Lando and I were actually hanging out with each other.

As we pulled up I could see our engineers waiting for us, their faces dropping when they saw Lando and I get out of the same car. Lando passed me his McLaren jacket giving me a small smile.

"You forgot yours... it could be cold." I smiled and slid the jacket on.

"Thanks." We walked over to our engineers and greeted them, my engineer raised their eyebrows as Lando walked in front of us. I rolled my eyes in response.

Practices were an absolute nightmare. Throughout the entire of first practice the car didn't feel right and I couldn't put in consistent laps. About halfway second practice my engine went up in smoke and my engineer made me pull over to the side. Once I got back to the garage I went straight into my drivers room and laid down on the sofa, putting my hands in my face. I knew that everyone had been working really hard on the car but never less it was extremely frustrating and I needed to cool down before talking to anyone.

I stayed in there for the rest of practice. I was trying to work out a game plan for the rest of the weekend considering I knew I'd get a grid penalty because of my engine. This race was going to be a lot tougher than I was planning on it being. I waited for the majority of people to make their way to the front of the garage before I snuck out of my room and out the back towards the car park. I was ready to climb into my bed and ignore everything until tomorrow. I looked around and remembered that Lando had driven the two of us in. I groaned and cursed quietly as I took out my phone and booked an Uber.

When I got back to the hotel I got changed into some joggers and a t-shirt before climbing into bed and turning the tv on. It played softly in the background as I scrolled through my phone, reading meaningless shit, trying to keep my brain occupied from the awful day I'd gone though. My train of thought tore away from an article when a message from Lando popped up.

Where've you gone?

I replied telling him I'd gotten a lift back before locking my phone and concentrated on the tv. I watched a few episodes of Gossip Girl before a small knock came from the door. I climbed out of the duvet and opened the door. Lando was stood in from of me carrying a large carrier bag.

"Thought you might've been hungry and could use a little cheering up," he said, a soft smile spreading. I smiled and invited him in, closing the door before climbing back into my bed. Lando sat next to me and we tucked into our fajitas, watching more Gossip Girl.

"You're still gonna smash it this weekend you know that right?" I looked away from the tv towards Lando. My eyebrows furrowed as I opened my mouth to reply but he cut me off. "All this means is that you can show off to everyone, you'll sail past a good few cars on the first couple of laps and show everyone how talented you are." My frown slowly disappeared as he spoke and was replaced by a smile.

"I'll make it look like a challenge when I pass you," I said winking, he chuckled and shoved my shoulder playfully.

We continued watching tv, Lando had moved a little bit closer to me, I rested my head on his shoulder and he lifted his arm up for me to cuddle into his side. I smiled and rested my arm across his waist and snuggled into him, his fingers lazily traced circles on my waist. I let out a small yawn as my eyes began to feel heavy. I battled to keep them open but eventually gave in and shut them, still listening to the tv in the background. I felt a small kiss placed on the top of my head.

"One day I'll tell you how much you really mean to me, how perfect you are." he whispered. I could feel a small blush creep across my cheeks before exhaustion fully kicked in and I fell asleep.
