Kageyama wasn't the type of person who cared about other people's life. Not unless it affected the match, anyway. But this... This pissed him off. Hinata, that dumbass, was bringing an audience into the gym, albeit it was a very small one, and while it wasn't affecting the game, it really pissed Kageyama off.
The stupid duo of girls just sat there and even endured Nishinoya and Tanaka's flirting (well, they called it flirting, Kageyama would call it harassing). He could deal with an audience, that was fine. But, he hated the way they'd cheer Hinata on and butt in before he could congratulate his teammate first.
He was glad the attention made Hinata a little brighter who was always pleased to get compliments on his ability but it just... UGH! Kageyama couldn't even explain exactly how or why it annoyed him, it just did!
"Shoyooo! Great toss!" calls girl #1, sending Hinata a thumbs up as he lands on his feet after perfectly executing the special 'freak' quick perfectly.
Kageyama grits his teeth, saying nothing. Girl #1 annoyed him the most. She was so... friendly and talkative and supportive. Hinata and her got along well and Hinata had even introduced her too the team but Kageyama doesn't care what her name is and doesn't remember.
With his usual bright grin, Hinata sends the girl sat on the bench a thumbs up.
The game carries on and Kageyama almost forgets about their little audience. Then he realises that they're staring. Girl #1 is fixed on Hinata, her eyes following Hinata's quick, practised movements. Girl #2 is staring too, but it's a different kind of staring. Not a he's-amazing stare like girl #1 but more of a confused stare that says she's trying to figure something out about Hinata.
Angrily, Kageyama tosses the ball the moment it comes towards him. He's not focused, however and doesn't register what he's done until he hears the ball smacking into the ceiling. He looks up and quickly moves to the side.
But he wasn't quick enough.
The ball comes pummeling back towards him, and because he'd looked up it smashed straight on to his face, causing an intense pain to explode from his nose as he tumbles and falls to the ground.
He checks and luckily there's no blood, but his head hurts too from hitting the floor. How Hinata fell all the time and was okay was beyond him. The fall certainly affected the short boy's amount of braincells, though, he was sure.
The next thing Kageyama registers is laughing and lots of it. Groaning, he pushes himself up in to a sitting position to see everyone laughing. Some more than others. Hinata was in hysterics, clutching his sides as Nishinoya leaned on him, wiping his eyes.
Sugawara was in front of him, offering a hand up and asking if he was okay, concern the main thing on his face and in his eyes but even his lips twisted into a small, amused smile. No, Kageyama decides. It's not amused. It's jut Suga's normal, concerned and brotherly smile.
Still, Kageyama doesn't take the hand offered to him by his teammate and jumps to his feet, snapping a "Fine" at Suga's question.
The older boy doesn't seem offended, however, and just smiles and nods. He then wonders off to the other side of the court, returning to where he was previously. Currently, they were playing a three on three match. Kageyama, Hinata and Tanaka on one team and Sawamura, Sugawara and Azumane on the other. Everyone else was doing drills and practising on the sides.
When the laughter doesn't stop from Hinata, Tanaka, Noya and those damn girls, Sawamura shouts for them all to shut it in that scary voice he has. They all fall silent immediately and the game resumes.
Everything seems fine again, it seemed.
For now, Kageyama just ignored the staring of the two girls. After all, this was probably the third practise they'd come to watch. This might be something he has to just deal with.
Dumbass Hinata bringing girls here...
Really, those girls were lucky that they'd not been sent away by Sawamura yet. Kageyama had a theory he let them stay because they seemed to give Hinata, Tanaka and Nishinoya more reason to practise as hard as possible.
"Idiot" Kageyama murmurs, slinging his bag over his shoulder.
Practise had come to an end now and he was looking forward to getting away from those girls.
Kageyama didn't even realise he was waiting for Hinata until the orange haired boy bounced down the steps, pausing upon seeing him.
"Kageyama! You're waited - wait... You're not going to shout at me, are you?" Hinata's face becomes twisted with an expression crossed between fear and amusement.
"No, Dumbass!" Kageyama growls as Hinata approaches. "We normally walk together"
"Oh!" Hinata's eyes light up, like he's only just realised that they walk home together most of the time.
Idiot...
"Shoyo!" Girl #1 one comes down the step from the gym, followed by girl #2, a frown on her face and her lips pouty. "I thought you left without me -" She glances to the other girl. "Uhhh, us!"
Kageyama frowns. Why wouldn't he leave? Practise had ended and other than saying goodbye, Hinata was in no way required to see these girls. He didn't even have to say goodbye.
Hinata blinks at the girl, as if he too was confused why this girl was making it seem like Hinata did something wrong by coming out of the gym without her.
"You should come round tonight, Mum's making--"
"Hah!" Hinata scratches the back of his head, his free hand settling on Kageyama's arm. "Sorry, Miko! Kageyama and I have plans! We're in a hurry! Sorry! Bye, Sayuri! Bye, Miko!"
Without giving Kageyama time to protest, Hinata grabs on to the arm that his hand rested on and drags Kageyama towards the bike shed and out of view of the girl.
"What the hell was that, dumbass?!" Kageyama hisses under his breath as Hinata quickly unlocks his bike.
He was pleased though, that Hinata hadn't run off to eat with that girl and her family. He didn't know why that pleased him... but it did. It's probably just because he has a routine when it comes to going home after practise, Kageyama tells himself.
"I had to say something. Besides, I'm -" Hinata let's out a large yawn " - really tired, I want to go to bed"
Kageyama lets the subject drop as they begin to walk, not wanting to hear Hinata explain how he knew the girl and why he was okay with her calling him Shoyo or anything else that discussing her may mean.
He didn't care about other people's lives, he really didn't. Although the staring definitely pisses him off - and so does the fact they never allow him time to praise Hinata. He was new to this praising thing and needed practise.
"D-Does your face and head still hurt?" Hinata asks, suddenly, glancing at Kageyama briefly.
Kageyama narrows his eyes at the stuttering. "Are you laughing at me again, you bastard?"
Hinata shakes his head, backing up like he does when he gets scared of Kageyama. "N-no! I was just asking how your face is!"
Kageyama sighs "Dumbass"
