Chapter 38 - Movies

"I'm catching a movie with Christopher later," I told Andrea.

"It's been 2 days since the first date and you're already going on another?" she asked with a smirk and I sighed.

"That wasn't a date, Andy, neither is this," I told her and she rolled her eyes at me.

"Ouch, don't break Christopher's heart like that," she said.

"Whatever," I said, rolling my eyes with a smile. We continued talking for about 10 minutes before the bell rang.

"I really don't understand why he can't just text me to meet him outside," I told her as I stood up to walk to the door.

"When you pick a girl up from a date, you're supposed to pick her up from her house, not somewhere else," she said.

"Cállate," I replied with a small smile. When I put my phone on the small key holder and opened the door, Andrea started singing Primera Cita. Oh my god.

"Hey," I said to him and I scrambled to put my phone off speaker but dropped it, causing me to groan.

"Hey, Nila," he said and Andrea continued singing.

"Nice singing," Christopher said to Andrea.

"Ha! And you keep saying that I can't sing," she exclaimed with a laugh.

"He's just being nice to you. Bye."

"Sorry about that," I muttered and he smiled at me.

"Are you ready?" he asked and I nodded. I turned to close the door and he held his hand out to me. I took it and we started walking in the direction of the mall. Even though we would skate to the mall whenever we went there, we didn't this time as we would have to bring it with us into the cinema.

"What movie do you want to watch?" I asked him and he smiled.

"A horror movie," he said with a grin.

"You remember the last time we watched a horror movie," I reminded him and he laughed, nodding. I remembered it clearly, it was the first time that he had held my hand.

"Are you okay with watching a horror movie?" he asked and I shrugged.

"Sure, it's just a movie, right," I said with a smile and he returned it. It was just a horror movie and I was already 22. I'm pretty sure I need to get over my fear of them.

In about fifteen minutes, we reached the mall and we went straight up to the cinema. Since he had chosen the genre, I chose the movie.

"Next time you choose the genre and I'll choose the movie," he said as he swung our hand slightly. Next time? I nodded with a small smile. When we got our tickets, we went to buy some candies. We got both sweet candies and sour candies before going into the cinema.

"Bleugh," Christopher said and started making faces when he ate the sour candy. I continued eating it and watched him in amusement with a smile on my face. After a while of him making faces because of the sour candy, he turned to look at me.

"I still have no idea how you eat it with a straight face," he told me but reached for another candy. He had the same reaction and I laughed. I took the sweet candy and popped it into my mouth while smiling at him. He looked at me then at the sweet candy before taking it instead and smiling.

When the movie started, we had finished our candy so we stopped talking and instead paid attention to the screen. It was fine at first, but when we were in the middle of the movie, the jumpscares started and I sighed and closed my eyes.

I felt Christopher poke my cheek and I turned to look at him. He had a smile on his face and he held his hand out. I took it and smiled at him before facing the front. I was going to try to not shut my eyes.

When there was a jumpscare, I squeezed his hand unknowingly and realised what I did. I looked at him from the corner of my eye to see what his reaction was. He had a small smile on his face and I turned to look at the screen again.

The movie soon ended and I let out a breath. There weren't a lot of jumpscares but when there was one, I gave his hand a small squeeze before relaxing it. He would then squeeze it back and we would continue with the movie.

Simultaneously, we stood up and walked out of the cinema, still holding each other's hand. We walked around the mall and when we walked past a shop that sold props like huge clown sunglasses and disguise glasses, he tugged on my hand and we got in.

I picked out a pair of huge and turned to look at Christopher. He took off his glasses and I put them on him. I took out my phone to take a picture of him and he gave me a huge smile. He looked behind me and reached over to take something. It was a red clown nose and he put it on me.

"Eres tan linda," he said with a smile, causing my cheeks to heat up. He took his phone out and took a picture of me, causing me to stick my tongue out at him. He moved to stand beside me instead of in front of me and took a picture of us.

We continued walking further into the shop and picking out props to on each other. I picked out a huge pink hat and put it on him as he placed a huge witch hat on me. I smiled and took my phone to take pictures of us and of him.

"I'm getting you these," I said to him when he put on a pair of disguise glasses with big bushy eyebrows and mustache. He turned to look at the mirror before laughing.

"You're getting one too," he said and picked up a similar pair. He put it on me and we turned to look at the mirror before laughing. He stood behind me and put his hand out in a peace sign as I took the picture in the mirror.

We continued laughing as we looked at ourselves in the mirror.

"We're definitely getting these," I said with a laugh as we walked to the cashier and he swung our joined hands slightly.

We reached the cashier and put our glasses on the counter. The man, whose back was to us, turned around with a smile. My smile slipped of my face as I froze.

Oh my god.

"Uh, hey, Daniella and Christopher," he said but I did not respond.

"Hey Mateo!" Christopher said cheerily and Mateo gave him a small smile before turning to look at me, causing me to look away.

"Daniella, I'm really sorry for what I did in secondary school. We were friends in primary school but I still did all those things to you. I'm sorry. I thought that it was cool and that it would make me cool but it wasn't. It really wasn't. I'm so sorry," he said and started to apologise.

I saw Christopher turn to look at me with a confused look on his face. The memories of his teasing, bullying and taunting came back to me in a rush. I ignored him and Christopher's questioning look as I pulled my hand away from him before turning and walking away.

What do you guys think about my attempt at ending the chapter in a cliffhanger?

Anyways, I've been posting a chapter almost everyday for the past 2 weeks and today will the last day of it as I'm starting school tomorrow (ugh) I'm not sure what my update schedule would be but I'll work it out soon.
